Very interesting read from Pro Football Weekly on the mess in Cleveland:
ProFootballWeekly.com - Mangini unlikely to survive Browns' disarray
Most enjoyable quote: "Mangini is an ass", from an anonymous NFL executive.
Most interesting gossip: The possibility that Bill Parcells could land in Cleveland: "Yet, the way we hear it, don't be surprised if Parcells himself ends up moving to Cleveland, with sources in the Sunshine State saying that 'the Tuna' has been preparing to turn the keys over to Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland at season's end and seek a new rebuilding project."
I don't buy the Parcells to Cleveland idea. First, Cleveland is too big a mess, and Lerner is part of it. Parcells has nothing to gain at age 68 by taking on another rebuilding project - he can't possible one-up the Miami miracle recovery, and failure in Cleveland would only tarnish his image. I'm not sure he wants to work that hard at his age. Finally, he's living the dream life in Florida, where he owns a home. Dan Shaughnessy had a nice piece about Parcell's cushy life in the Globe this week:
Franchise fixer - The Boston Globe
Supposedly a lot of big name GM candidates being courted by Lerner are very leery of having to come in and work with Mangini. What a shock.
