OT-Overrated past football players

Chad Johnson- Big regular season stats for a few years, not much playoff success.

Brett Favre- He was ridiculously tough but the guy could've had 3 or 4 Super Bowl rings if he didn't make so many back-foot or cross-body throws.

Peyton Manning- Tons of records in the regular season but come playoff time he was just too inconsistent. I think playing in a dome for most of his career with awesome receivers really inflated his stats

Troy Polamalu- Fast, athletic player but I always thought people were way too enamored with his hair and personality.

I dunno about players but I can tell u a team: The Minnesota Vikings!! A number of my friends are Philadelphia Eagle fans and so we had a guys weekend out and watched the Eagles play the Vikings. In a word the Vikings SUCKED!!!

Phillip Rivers, all world team, no ring, still hanging on to the light's Out! legacy.

John ****ing Elway. Make him play all of his games at sea level, he'd be another Jeff George. Every ****ing team has a problem playing there. That is a true disadvantage. He should have won more. Christ, the guy is 2 for 5! I ****ing hate Karl Mecklenberg too.

Joe Flacco. What? Deer Antler Spray. That's his new name.

Eli. of course.

Terry Glenn
Jon Stephens
Eugene (1st round pick)

Ricky Waters, what a douchebag.
Mike Alstott. You couldn't last a few more years?

My #1 most overrated player would have to be Emmitt Smith. Loaded up on the Cowboys run, and passed Walter. If Barry would have had the same longevity, and played with an identical team, there would be no mention of Emmitt Smith in history regarding the running back position. It would be Barry and no one else.

Hard not to put Namath at least close to #1 if not right at it.

Aikman might be in the top 10. Good QB for sure but I think a fewguys could have won 3 rings with Smith and that OL.

pay me a ton has to be on the list not because he wasn't a great player, clear first ballot hall of famer and top 10 QB of all time. However, I put him at number 10 and the people who say he even remotely belongs in the GOAT conversation make me angry. No where near enough rings and FAR too many 1 and dones with great teams.

Ray Lewis

A guy that made the game all about himself and got creditd alot for simplying jumping on the pile. What we all want to know, is happened to the white suit Ray

My Father always told me that Namath was over rated big time.
Joe Namath's numbers belied his effectiveness. He played in a time when receivers and QBs weren't ****ied. He threw lots of picks. But, I remember 2 things about him more than anything else: 1) he and the Jets won SB III and all of us AFL fans will be indebted to him and the Jets forever for legitimizing the Pats and all of the other AFL teams and forcing the merger of the NFL and AFL; 2) his completion rate wasn't great, but he was nails in crunch time. Your team could be leading his by 14 with 3:00 left in the 4th Q and you'd be soiling yourself if he had the ball. Just my 2 cents worth.

Answer: all and none of them.
1) rules change and comparison across eras is stupid.
2) nostalgia uses rose colored glasses

Elway had some crazy number of 4th quarter comebacks with the likes of Vance Johnson and Marc Jackson as his primary receivers. Played in a competitive AFCW for the bulk of his career. I don't think the 80s Broncos sniff the Super Bowl once, let alone 3 times, without him.

And honestly, of any team's fans to call the guy overrated, the last on the list should be Pats fans. The guy owned New England's ###. Did the Pats ever beat him?

Regards,
Chris

He really was the real deal in '88.
Had Berry simply stuck with Flutie, we could have rode John's back all the way to the Super Bowl.

But he got hurt & was never the same.
