NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION OT: Other NFL preseason games

Pats before the Bucs game: Mia, @NYJ, NO.

I predicted L, W, W in that order but right now I don't think any of those games are gimmes, not even the Jets game. Can you imagine being 0-3 and watching the GOAT step on the field in week 4 in front of a ticked off Patriots fanbase?

Still predicting 3-0 before the TB game, no matter our QB...

I'm sure a lot of the "fake" Patriot fans and front runners will be thrilled. There's quite a few of them on here these days.

I wonder if Payton is taking similar heat in NO, not being ready for Brees' departure that Bill has taken here for Brady. You may think that Winston is a better QB than Newton (and he certainly throws a prettier ball), but the last time he started he went 7-9 with a team that won the Super Bowl the next year with Brady. Meanwhile, Cam goes 7-9 (7-8 really, but he would have lost to KC as well IMO), with a team that won 12 games the year before with Brady. They seem more or less identical in the quality of their results. So is Payton getting killed down there? (I realized this may have come across as an attempt at a "gotcha" moment, but I'm not trying to make a point about the Belichick criticism here, just genuinely curious if that's the sentiment in New Orleans as well).

Winston's final year in Tampa was his year tossing all the picks. What people don't follow that up with is that his previous year interception totals were a comparatively palatable 15,1,11,14, and his int% for each year of his career have been 2.8, 3.2, 2.5, 3.7, 4.8. In other words, his INTs that last year were an aberration.

I would expect that the Saints fans are looking towards this season with excitement tempered with nervousness. That team is still very talented and, if Winston can just keep the INTs down, it could be a very good team.

You should post a list of those you consider to be "fake" Patriots fans.

Lawrence not fazed by negative plays at all, cool under pressure has great touch on all his throws. Would have been nice to have... oh well.

Jags OL...ewww
I wasn't all that impressed.

Could get ugly. Doubt that happens though - I'm thinking 2-1, would be thrilled with 3-0 obviously

No one can possibly be more of a fake fan than one who was fine throwing away a Super Bowl and driving away two Hall of Fame players, so that they can ball wash their favorite coach.

It’s funny because you think the “fake fans” are those rightful critical of recent decisions, and yet, if the team does fall apart, all of those people will still be posting here about the team, while so many of the cultish, rah rah! types will bolt.

Meyer should do himself a couple of favors…

1) Don’t put the future of your franchise out there against a very good front in a meaningless preseason game with 3 out of 5 starters out on the OL.

At the same time I thought it was a good idea for Lawrence to get a taste of the speed of an elite NFL defensive line. I think there were a couple times where he was surprised by how fast his pocket had collapsed.

Agree, but there were even more times where he could have gotten murdered out there.

Heh…

I still have no clue why Meyer didn’t address OL with that second pick in the first round and then take Elijah Moore in the second round. Looked like a panic move because he couldn’t get Toney so decided to take Etienne when he would have been smarter to fortify the left side of that OL for his new franchise QB.

When you've got 50 holes on a roster, you're screwed for a while no matter how you start addressing them.

I won’t disagree there, but protecting the new franchise QB would seem to be the most important one to address first. They had better hope they have no injuries up front during the season as even the starting OL is suspect. Otherwise, Lawrence may not even make it through the year. The Saints had multiple opportunities to hit him with a kill shot last night and took it easy on him. My way puts another fat boy up front while still being able to get the speed guy that Meyer loves for jet sweeps, go routes, skinny posts, etc.

OL first would absolutely be my policy, and the David Carr experience will likely have me always thinking that way. But having a (theoretically) reliable outlet receiver out of the backfield is another great way to ease the pressure. And they did draft Little in round 2, so it's not as if they ignored the line.

I think he's worth a shot... He's bigger & more explosive that AssyAssy (who by the way has absolutely ****ing Sucked so far), though he isn't a great in-line blocker right now, if he'll ever be... He's not exactly a Dalton Keene replacement either because he'll never be a viable threat to run, block or catch from the backfield... Still infinity times better than Matty LaGlasse however, so...

Gets worse for Meyer.. apparently he's gotten off to a bad start.
