Manning was certainly derided for his poor performance in SB 48, and no one here gave him any credit for reaching the Super Bowl. The reality is no one gets credit for being a runner up in this world.
That's not true.
People here gave him credit for making the Super Bowl and throwing for 55 TDs. But he wasn't just some guy where making the Super Bowl was a big slap on the ass; he was an all-time great player trying to show he was in fact the very greatest to ever play the game. The margins for error are indeed slimmer. And had Manning played a solid game against that Seahawks defense, and came out on the losing end despite rallying his team to take a lead, or shown some gutsy play under pressure, the reaction would be quite different, both here and nationally. He absolutely humiliated himself.
That's the thing... it really isn't
all about wins and losses because it doesn't always run tick for tick with the quarterback; it's about playing winning football and losing football. That's what a lot of Manning apologists, like yourself (?), fail to grasp. Brady has played so great when it mattered so many times; Manning played so crappy when it mattered so many times. Wins/Losses aren't the reason Brady is greater; they are just the consequences.
Similar to why you don't seem to grasp the Brady/Belichick split in 2020. It isn't so much about just wins and losses or records against whatever team. It's about Brady going into a system that is very, very different and looking great, especially after having some time. That his strengths are indeed very versatile and that he can read/dissect/prepare for defenses. His command is apparent. It isn't even about the stats; again, those are the consequences of his play, not the other way around.
It isn't just about 7-9 for the Patriots; it's about the quarterback position and offense looking absolutely abysmal; I mean, bottom of the barrel. And yes, they are devoid of talent at skill positions, but they do have a great offensive line, and for years we heard all about how Bill can plug in anyone and so-and-so will be good because of the coaching, gameplans, intelligence, preparation. etc. No one honestly thought Newton, or really any QB, would throw 30 TD passes with the Patriots roster, but certainly the Bb iS gOd crowd thought they'd see an offense that was above average, competent, and efficient, just from coaching alone.
