I would love to have kept wife's #2 shirtless heartthrob too as a QB, but don't see how Pats had the cap to sign him for the $ he could get elsewhere, never mind the chance to start elsewhere. Quality players would have been cut to keep Jimmy G.

You said "last year's draft class". This year is 2020. Last year was 2019. Harry was drafted in 2019. Harry was not drafted in 2020. I know you're not always the quickest but see if you can piece that out.

First of all, trading Brady's favorite target right before the season was beyond stupid. That pick was later used on Brandon Merriweather. How did that turn out? They failed on Chad Jackson and trotted him out to defend a kick with a bad hammy and got his ACL torn that game. Good call! I hate the legendary "face guarding" more than anybody, but that didn't win the game for the Colts. Pats were aging at LB with no depth and Bill ignored the position starting in 2005 letting McGinest walk and replacing him with the legendary Monty Biesel. Ty Law was replaced by Duane Starks for a 2nd! The LB's starting dropping like flies in the 2006 AFCCG and Manning targeted Eric Alexander over and over again is what really got them back into the game/eventually won. Secondary was also helpless and Law would've been useful.

2007: He built a team that went 18-0 and couldn't handle the stress and lost the SB

The lack of LB depth once again came back to haunt them with Kevin Boss catching a 45 yard momentum swinging pass that set up a 5 yard Tyree touchdown in the 4th Quarter taking a 10-7 lead. Their coverage ace was Adalius Thomas who had to take Colvin's role earlier in the season. With that being said, the defense overall still had plenty of chances to end that game way earlier as they dropped two INT's in the first Q alone, the refs botching the Bradshaw stolen fumble from Woods, etc. Oh, and Law may have been useful again as that someone else may have not been freelancing in the secondary on the helmet catch.

They missed the playoffs. However, in an alternate universe if things played out differently, say winning in 2007, they play a different team/time and Brady probably never tears his ACL.

Brady wouldn't look anything close to being a franchise QB in this offense. He would basically be Matthew Stafford (20 TDs, 9 INTs), which is better than what we have now, but not a franchise QB.

He had a quality next guy named Jimmy. But in his case the owner told him to get rid of him. On the other teams the owner backed his coach and they got rid of the old guy. Favre, Montana, Manning all finished elsewhere

The owner saved Bill's butt on this one--if you believe this is why Brady stayed.

A franchise QB is one that a team is not trying to replace and can be expected to be said team's starter for many years. If Brady put up Matt Stafford-like numbers in our offense (20 TDs, 9 INTs) in 2020 (assuming he signed a 1-year extension last year), I guarantee you Bill wouldn't even consider bringing him back. But I suppose you have a different definition of "franchise quarterback"...

Brady already was a franchise QB for the Pats.

Pats would have a legit passing game. But the team he is on now has a much better chance to go to the Super Bowl than the 2020 Pats would with or without Brady. It's not close.

Anyway it's moot - his mind was made up that 2019 was his last year in NE so it doesn't matter now.

You said he wouldn’t “look like” a franchise QB in spite of naming stats for a guy who has been, for better or worse, a franchise QB in Detroit when talking about a guy who had been a franchise QB here for 20 years. You did not, however, say he wouldn’t be a franchise QB. You’re now moving the goal posts because you’re probably aware that you just argued yourself into a corner. So let’s try this again. I hope Brady hangs it up before he becomes an average starting QB. I can still watch him at his current state which is at the top or near the top of the second tier of QBs after the top ones. I cannot handle watching Brady being like Marino his last few years or Peyton Manning his last year.

Brady seems to be a guy that will have to be dragged away from football, but I hope he has more pride than to continue playing when he is an ordinary QB.

If Brady put up 20TDs, 9 INTs for the 2020 Patriots we would probably be somewhere between 11-2 and 13-0, and in control of the #1 seed.

LOL, more grammar smack. When I said "look like" I was using it to mean he wouldn't "be" a franchise QB here in NE. If you want to argue that Brady would look like Matt Stafford or Matt Ryan, then i'd agree.

If Brady can't perform at an elite level on THIS team, then what good is it? And his play in the tail end of last year wasn't fine at all. This year would have just been a continuation of that.

It is a mystery to me why Bill wanted to move on from Brady so badly. He was taking cheap contracts since 2013 and would have continued doing that in exchange for a multi-year contract that would have taken him through age 45. I could understand it more if Bill had any sort of transition plan at QB but he had none which makes it all the more head-scratching. At least in terms of the other great QBs, you had quality transition plans - the Colts had Luck, the Packers had Rodgers, the Niners had Young. I mean, for goodness sakes, we have lousy Cam Newton!

They were together for twenty years. Six years longer than any other HC/QB duo. They got tired of each other. It blew up last season. It is what it is. We got a great ride out of it.

Manning was an unknown after his shoulder surgery.

Favre played the "I'm retired....not retired.... retired ... I'll let you know in August .." game too many times.

Montana was injured and Young showed his stuff effectively replacing Montana.

Brady and BB were not going to play another season together. They were done with each other.

No one is blaming Bill the coach.

If anything, comparing how NE is being competitive with no talent to TB scrapping by with uber talent, is showing how good of a coach BB is.

I'm sure Brady will be back in 2021.
Whether he plays in 2022 will depend on whether his is still a top 10 QB.

If he keeps on playing , I think he will cheat a bit by taking a low contract in 2022, maybe 10-15 million, so that they can spend more on offensive players to help him out

I can't see him playing in 2023, just on age alone. I'm in my 40s and I've notice the decline from peak physical shape, which I did not notice in my 30s.
