OT: Official 2020 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

It's fascinating how much quieter this thread is after a TB win than after a TB loss. Nothing new though. Brady has been silencing his critics for 20 years.
Meanwhile, the Extend Newton thread has become extinct.

I'm sorry but BB's defense "won" half of the 6? They also were the reason we lost 3.

2007
Asante Samuel dropped the perfect season. A season led by.... the offense.

2011
The Pats would've been blown out by the Giants in 2011 without Brady. Not because their offense was good but our pass defense was complete trash all season.

The defense was annihilated by Atlanta and Philly in the Super Bowl. Like historically destroyed by a backup journeyman in Philly. Stop.

You can't give up 41 to Nick Foles, bench your best CB and get a pass. BB deserves more blame than he gets for losing that SB.
I just wish we knew the real reason why. I really can’t think of one thing that could justify throwing away a Super Bowl like that. No way it was performance related. At worst cut him after the game if you have to. It’s like it was personal. I don’t get it.

What saves it from being an ass kicking for the ages is Brady’s game - the single greatest performance in championship history IMO. To put it in perspective he did it against a defense that was no tomato can. Top 5 in the league. Let that sink in. The turnover toward the end takes nothing away from it.

I think most those SBs were a mix between good O and good D. In some like both Rams SBs the D was a bit better. On some like the Falcons and the Panthers the O was a bit better. But the only SB I felt that we were self hindered before the game even started was the 2017 SB. And to top it off even when the whole world could see the multiple mismatches against our secondary Bill was still to stubborn to put him in. That L is squarely on Bill’s shoulders.
A bit better???? OMG that was 100% the d that game, just like the Philly game was 100% offense.

To bring this thread back to the Bucs, what’s the consensus on how far they can go?

To me, the beat down they took against the Saints was one of those games that’s impossible to take a team seriously after that… Unless they have a coach who is so strong he can fundamentally transform the team in a few games, and it doesn’t seem like Arians is that type of guy.

The Bucs finish with three games against teams 13-26 combined. The Falcons & Lions are 28th & 29th in defense respectively.

Tom will likely finish with about 4,250 yards 37 TDs & 12 INTs. The Bucs should go 11-5.

His efficiency isn't what it used to be (passer rating, accuracy vs. pressure, etc.) but he proved the 2019 offense made him look worse. Impressive season nonetheless.

How far the Bucs go in the playoffs depends on what offense & defense they run. They have a team talented enough to win the NFC paired with a QB that can lead an inexperienced bunch. They also can lose in the first round due to coaching. Should be entertaining.

The Bucs should take these three weeks to install the quick passing game with Godwin & AB IMO.

The NFC feels wide open to me so I think matchups will be key. If they get NFCE first round I think they would be favored and could potentially get on a run. With injuries and Covid I would not count many teams out on a given week.

The defense was good when they needed to be in the Falcons SB. The comeback doesn’t happen if they weren’t.

LOL, did you even watch the super bowl losses?

SB42: It was the offense that didn't do a damn thing until the end when the Giants D was gassed and Corey Webster slipped on the Moss TD. Could the D have been better at times? Sure, but you don't give up 17 points and not expect to win a super bowl.

SB46: Whose fault was it that Brady committed intentional grounding in the end zone, basically giving the Giants 9 free points. Belichick's? How about the INT to Chase Blackburn?

SB52: Mostly D, but Brady made a costly mistake with 2 mins to go in the 4th.

Point I'm making is that if you are going to criticize Belichick for benching Butler, you need to give him credit too. I mean if it weren't for Belichick, the Pats wouldn't have won SB 36, 49, or 53, which can mostly be attributed to the defense.

That play happened in the 1st quarter and the Pats went on to take a lead afterwards. And how is that 9 points? The Giants got 2 points then started their next drive on their 22. It's fine if you want to continue your Tom Brady hate but please try and keep your facts in line.

I dunno - seems like nitpicking to me if you're looking for faults in Brady's performance against the Eagles. Take Brady away and put 2020 Cam in there or Stidham and the Pats probably lose something like 63-0. That's how terrible the defense was and how great Brady was. Bill could have done something about that very easily but he didn't and who knows why. Now we know the reason why the Pats aren't a three peat champion is that decision. It's amazing when you think about it.

For SB46, Brady threw for 5200 yards that year and the defense was horrible all year and they were bad in that game too. No Brady didn't play his best game but remember the Giants ranked dead last in rushing offense that year... and they ran all over the Pats in that game.

The play was a 9 point swing for the Giants.

So what hot takes do we have in here this week?

Sadly, Bucs one and done post season is most likely. Brady in classic form might win them one game but odds against.
The Bucs are in a favorable position if they can win out, and with games against Atl, Det, Atl that's a real possibility. If they do that and get the #5 seed they'll play the NFCE winner and could play the #1 seed after that, which could be GB who they already beat handily.

The thing is Tampa need to be more methodical on offense. They need longer drives. They are like 27th in time of possession. It’s either they score quick or a 3 and out!

They always starts slow on both sides of the ball and against good teams it’s dangerous because you can get down by a lot quick. Which happened against NO and KC. It was starting the same way against GB before Rodgers wanted to help them a bit.

i think they can be dangerous against anybody if they take the lead. If they are up they can pressure you.

It'll be either the Bucs or Seattle/LAR that get the 5th seed.

You gotta remember it’s TommyBrady saying this stuff take it with a grain of salt I’m sure Brady slept with his wife

and giving up 41 points to nick ****ing foles is just sad
Youre dead wrong about one thing:
No way in hell is that sad sack's wife hot enough for Brady to sleep with.

Yep. Crickets.

Did you notice how happy the media was for the team? I mean genuinely excited to have a team right in the mix. What a difference to our media who are a bunch of curmudgeons that make wins feel like losses.
