Matt Patricia for assistant coach of the year? Or no

I sort of wonder 5 years from now how we'll look back on all this, especially if Jones is still the starter. I don't even know what you can take away from last year. Just a weird, weird season.

On the topic of this post, I would say that Jalen Hurts is probably the biggest surprise to me out of everyone. I paid no attention to the Eagles all year and it took me until midseason to even stop picking against them. I haven't really watched him play and always thought he was just an O.K. quarterback who was just a good athlete. He clearly took a massive step forward this year that I don't think many of us expected. As much as I dislike the Philly fans thanks to the 2017 season, I'd still like to see him pull off the upset. I'd rather not listen to people start putting Mahomes up there with Brady, which I'm sure many will start to do if he wins his second.

Me too. I think Hurts was also the 5th QB off the board in the draft just like Mac was. Hopefully that's not the only thing they'll have in common

Here's a quick link I'll add to this:

Tough call on coach of the year. I'd have to put it between Pederson and Daboll. Both guys did a great job this season. You can make the argument for Shanahan, but I feel like the other two guys did more with less. Should be interesting to see who gets it.

While I am certainly not going to defend Patricia, let it be acknowledged that the clustermess which was the Patriots’ coaching staff this year comes down to the decisions of just one person.

Glad he at least seems to acknowledge that was a colossal screwup. Would have rather he anticipated it a year ago like everyone else did... better late than never I guess.

Do people actually watch this crap? I loathe awards shows of any type. It's a tough call between a stick in the eye and being forced to watch any of the grammy's, emmy's, oscar's.............NFL honors is no better in my mind. I've never watched it.

Agreed. Both Pederson and Daboll also completely turned around their teams from the season before. I wonder if it matters that Pederson is a known commodity and an experienced coach and Daboll is brand new to the position.

Hopefully it's not his last one!

I haven't either, although the discussion about the awards and some of the related stuff is pretty interesting to talk about it.

Yes talking about the awards is interesting to a degree. It's also a popularity contest to a degree which also turns me off but I agree with your overall point.

I'm with you on the pomp and circumstance part of it. It's fun to talk about who deserves which honor and talking about what transpired over the season when discussing it. I agree with you on the popularity contest, which is sort of why at least when we all talk about it here, we tend to talk more about who did what on the field, etc. Which again, is always more fun to go back and forth about.

But why it needs a night on TV is debatable, although it's like anything else. Anything that allows the league time on television isn't exactly something they're going to turn down.

NFL honors? ... meh ... I, for one, will be watching Battlebots

So another year goes by, and another year that Joe Cardona doesn’t win the salute to service award.

If I have to hear Kelly Clarkson say "Yall" one more time ill blow my brains out

Also Mahomes pre-recorded MVP speech was tacky as hell

I wonder if these guys know ahead of time who won these awards. Mahomes had to know for his pre-recorded speech. Maybe Mac already knew Chase got the OROTY award. I know Oscar winners don't know ahead of time but that's the Oscars.

It sickens me that the Jets got both rookie of the year honors. I will never understand why the Texans took Derek Stingley over Sauce Garner other than they are the Texans.

They had an excellent draft. Too bad they don’t have a QB.
