Top 5? Never heard of Magic, Bird, Jordan, Russell, Wilt, Kareem, I guess. That's just off the top of my head. I could rattle off 10 more names easily but I'm tired right now.

I don't agree with everything in the post, such as re-signing Marcus Smart (unless it's for something closer to the minimum than for the maximum, maybe), but I absolutely do agree with trying to sign Gordon Hayward from Utah.

Well, Smart is under contract for another season and then a RFA. I'd be in favor of seeing what they can get for him in a sign and trade. I'm kind of tired of watching him start a game off 0-6 or 1-11. Even if he does fairly often hit big shots. I'm favor of seeing what they have in Rozier who's played pretty well in the playoffs.

umm I love Bird he was my idle growing up but I think Lebron passed Bird. I am going to leave Russell, Wilt and even Kareem out of it. They don't count, its not fair to compare. But Lebron is the best modern day BB player. After Jordan's retirement I will say Lebron has been the best player since Jordan. The guy can do it all. He is the size of Larry Bird and can move like Michael Jordan.

God forbid Bird or any one of those stars get a "hard" foul or a non-call... he was consistent and relentless.

I heard these same arguments about Pippen being a better SF than Bird. Clearly, Bird was not as athletic as Pippen or Lebron. However, Bird was the greatest shooter I've ever seen and I've never seen a SF better at passing.

It's just a "recency" bias against him (and the NBA marketing/hype machine) that even puts Lebron in the discussion. We seem to have forgotten just how good Bird was. Here's a reminder:

Okafor seems to be a Bortles type player. The stats don't look that bad but you have to watch them play to understand how much they suck.

But even winning 1 game v Cle ( and 5-2 XX) EDIT 4-3 on the road in the playoffs is great) will do wonders to minimize the stigma of the loss. Had they gone down in 4, it might have had an effect on the psyche....
