OT: Matt Ryan to Colts

A Colts win

Jimmy G and Baker Mayfield might be the only options for Atlanta now
I don't envy the Teams who have to choose between those two.

I think that they have to eat like 40M in dead cap hit this year for Ryan, so they might have to make do with a cheap rookie or a cheap stop-gap vet (much cheaper than JG or Baker).

On paper seems like a great deal for the Colts. It's always iffy when a QB gets at Ryan's age. Still he's also at the age when "he knows all the answers to the questions defenses throw at him" (paraphrase). I think the Colts had a decent experience with Rivers at a similar age and Ryan I think has less wear and tear than Rivers at that point. With the good RB situation Ryan has fallen into as good a situation as he could have hoped and STILL get paid. Yous can easily pencil in the Colts as a favorite to win a very bad division. The Titans are the only possible competitor. Ironic that BOTH the AFC South and the NFC South have the 2 worst divisions in their conference.

PF2 made an excellent point. Teams are FLOCKING to load up in the 2nd round of this draft. This supposedly is the "sweet spot" of the draft. It WILL be very hard for us to find a trade partner for the 21st pick. and while that pick will likely have the same value as the 40th pick, we will probably be better off getting a top guy of that sweet spot crowd of prospects.

I see our immediate needs as CB and DT/NT. Elam (CB) and Jones (NT) would be flawed prospects with huge upsides as my picks at 21. I would be happy with either. knowing I MIGHT be able to get both with pick 40. That 21- 60 player ranking is going to be very tough to define. Over the next month we will look at mock drafts that will vary greatly in this area.

Absolute hilarious meltdown on sports talk radio down here in Atlanta. Within the past week icons Freddie Freeman and Matt Ryan have left town.

What makes the Falcons look even worse - If that's possible - is the contrast between the Falcons and the Braves. The Braves win the World Series and have a perfect plan B by trading for Matt Olsen. By contrast, the Falcons went from being offered a 2nd and 4th round pick a couple of weeks ago to being lucky to get a 3rd from Indy because of the bonus money owed to Ryan. They completely botched this and everyone seems to agree that it was Arthur Blank (and not his coach or GM) going all in on Deshaun Watson that burned all the bridges with Ryan.

I've heard this at least a half a dozen times on the radio in the last half hour: ever since 28-3 the Falcons have been a complete disaster. The Pats destroyed this franchise

I always thought Ryan was a very good QB who was unfairly blamed for the SB collapse. Sneaky underrated.

AFC QB's:

Mahomes
Allen
Burrow
Herbert
Wilson
Carr
Watson
Jackson
Ryan

I'm guessing Lawrence will be up there in no time too.

AFC is shaping up to be a real dogfight. Meanwhile the NFC has a few haves and... not much after that

Mac Jones is already better than all of those QBs, except Josh Allen who's the best in the AFC by quite a wide margin.

Colts shouldn't have released Peyton Manning back in the day. Hindsight of course.

Eh, anyone else see this as not a big deal?

Ryan for Wentz is basically an even swap afaiac...
I disagree. Of all the wheeling and dealing in the AFC, this might be the worst news for the Pats and a WC spot. Colts have a helluva team and Ryan can still play.

Also, everyone saying JImmy G going to this team or some other...is he really leaving SF? I don't think they're ready to hand it over to Lance yet, and in that NFC, they're very competitive. Rams, then Bucs, Green Bay, Dallas and SF...and they're all beatable.

Better than Mahomes, Burrow, Wilson, Herbert?

How?

Some Teams are Loaded with extra picks in the Second and Third Rounds we might have hard time getting a Trade Partner for #21.
Getting an extra 2nd is my goal every year it seems.

Detroit has been on my mind on weeks. They have 32, 34 & 66. They obviously could stay pat but also wouldn't surprise me to see them want to move up.

Chicago also has no 1st RD pick. 39 and 48, they might want to trade up for a WR Fields since that WR corp is putrid.

Seahawks are another. They have 9 but taking a QB there would be foolish. They could use 40 & 41 to entice someone.

Cleveland also has no 1st RD pick but have 44.

Where you been? haven't you heard Mac already punched his ticket for Canton unlike those wannabes.

This is the worst news? huh... well, then we might as well cash in our chips, pack it in & go pick up our participation trophies, because everyone else has just "won the offseason" ...

I guess we view things from a different perspective... The more it becomes dog eat dog in the other divisions, the less likely they will have good division records...

means, perhaps, better tie breaking odds for us?
