OT: Massarotti's tearful on-air apology today

No way those two are making less than $100k a year. I think they are the most listened to regional sports talk show in the country.
Really I never heard of them.

I dunno. I didn't hear this when it happened but the weepy apology was a bit hard to swallow. He made a crack to Felger about watching out for car-thieving black folks then today says, "That's not who I am." No word yet on whether another shoe will drop, re. suspension.

I can't imagine he won't be suspended.

Gasbaggarotti should have been hung for what he printed before the Pats super Bowl in 2007...he's a sawed off runt POS...always has been
What did he write before the 2007 SB?

He wasn't the guy behind that one, that was Tomase - who was also with the Herald. Although Mazz jumped ship and went to the Globe in 2008 after that fiasco, although I don't know if what happened with Tomase and the aftermath at the Herald played a role in it or not.
Thomase covers the Red Sox now for NBC Sports Boston.

Tomase was the author behind the story of the Patriots supposedly having recorded the Rams' walkthrough, among other things from an "unnamed source", which if I recall came out the Saturday before the game. They eventually printed a retraction for it, but the damage was done. Players were blindsided and later admitted it was a distraction, even though they tried to ignore it.

Oh, I know, I'm just surprised he survived that nuclear bomb he dropped and stayed in New England in the media. Time might heal a lot of things, but that one is tough to ever forget. Especially since people still refer to it as fact despite the fact the Herald later admitted it wasn't true.

Yeah, I knew that, which is why I was confused that Massarotti was being accused.

I suspect we all know the reason he had to switch to the Sox. No one in the Pats organization would give him the time of day.

OK gang, I've heard you. Still think most of you are way overestimating the income for these guys. The average host of a major city sports radio show is paid right around $50K. The money they get for one of those radio spots where they pitch hair gel or garage doors etc. pays a few hundred bucks. (How much margin do you think there is in those products that can be allocated to ads? Not much. And the media outlet takes most of it.)
They work in an industry that is downsizing.

But let's say each of them makes $300k from all of their sources. You aren't going to get anywhere close to wealthy on that, especially in Massachusetts. Even if the wife makes the same. There's just not much accumulation of capital over the years. You might put together a down payment on a house on Nantucket, but you are far from owning one.

Maybe there's family money.

All that content by the Herald from that weekend is gone - just like it never happened

No, they're celebrity entertainers. Felger in particular (and Maz) is on tv as well as radio. He has sponsorship deals. 41 million dollars net worth speaks for itself.

No, he makes a lot - albeit Audacy is in trouble, so who knows what might happen there.

Ordway made $1,000,000 at one point at WEEI in 2011 before they cut his salary:

I don't know where Felger falls, but they've been #1 for a while with an over 20 share - which is significant. So I'm sure he's compensated - as is Mazz - accordingly.

They re-upped his deal in 2018 - but the amount wasn't disclosed.

Also, the frustrating part of this situation - if I'm Felger - is he and Mazz are essentially subsidizing all the struggling stations, which is a big problem. Another annoying part of the story is the fact Fred Toucher I believe even offered to pay the salary of their producer after the station was going to let them go, but they agreed to Toucher's request - with an "administrative" fee added to it, which I thought was pretty crappy of them

I do think with Felger there is some family money. Not the Waltons or anything but I think he grew up pretty well off and I am sure made some money off his book and some of the endorsements and I would think his wife makes good money too. I don't know if anyone can live in the Boston metro area making around $100k a year.

Some of the comments and stories that have come out about management over there make it seem like a terrible place to work. If the talent sometimes get treated the way they do I can't imagine what the behind the scenes people deal with.

One book isn't going to make him much money unless he's Stephen King.

He lives in Wellesley and owns a home on Nantucket. As far as I know, his wife no longer works.
