OT: Kris Jenkins torn ACL - gone for the season

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Mike Wright is at least as good as Mike DeVito. There is no evidence that either of them can last as a stating DL, but Wright has a better track record of performance in his career. It's possible that Ellis and Pouha are better than Vince and G. Warren. I'm not arguing who's better. But it's pretty obvious that from a depth perspective, Brace and Pryor are better than Gholston.

I'd rather have DeVito than Wright. I very badly wanted Bill to sign DeVito as a UDFA after the '07 draft. Heck, I had preferred that Bill sign DE (from BC & Milton MA) Tim Bulman as a UDFA after the '05 draft ahead of Wright.

After using high picks on DEs in '01, '02 & '03, Bill pretty much ignored the position in any round (unless the awful Kareem Brown pick is included) until Pryor in '09; and is even he really a DE?

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Jeez, people are going down left and right. It stinks for the players, their teams and the NFL itself when players go down like this. Hope Jenkins, Sanders and Grant make a speedy recovery back to health.

Classy.

I'm more than sure jester fans were not saying this when Ty Warren went down. And I'm even more certain Jets fans will blame next weeks loss to the Patriots on this injury

It's just how they roll

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Yes. And the Jets were very lucky last year. Their entire OL didn't miss a game. Neither did their 2 ILBs, who played practically every single snap of the season. On the DL, they didn't miss anyone except Jenkins and they were deeper with Marques Douglas on the team. And Jenkins lasted 6 games last year, as opposed to 1 quarter this year.

I think the Jets are still OK on DL as long as they avoid any further injury. But that's a big risk.

No the Jets are not OK. You have forgotten that NT reserve Pititua who platooned with Pohua at NT when Jenkins was on IR last year, has preceded Jenkins to the IR, last week. Calvin Pace has gone on suspension for drugs. So the Jets are down four defensive linemen, three for the season, after only one game.

With regard to their Offensive line that Wrecsk personally sabotaged. Rookie Ducasse has been benched. Woody has eaten himself out of a job, a problem he had when he was 10 years younger with the Pats.

He looked fat and slow last night, but the Jets have no one to even suit up to take his place, as his backup reserve, is starting in Faneca/Ducasses LG position, and getting trampled. Ngata tossed him aside like a ragdoll to help end the last Jets effort.

Jester fans were blaming the OC and asking why they didn't try a four or five wide against the Ravens only to discover there are only 3 WRs on the Jets roster...

You can't trade your draft for three or four picks each year for half a decade, and then have premium strikouts like Robertson, Clemens, Gholston, Schlegal et cetera. Eventually, like now, you don't have enough genuine NFL players.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Neither Wright nor Warren is a starting quality 3-4 DE. I'm sorry, but that's just the reality of what NE is putting on its line.

Freddie Mitchell started 17 games in the NFL. He wasn't a starting quality WR. Sometimes teams have to make do.

I agree.

Unless Brady & Co. jump out to 24-0 leads every game for the rest of the season, this defense will be exposed.

Yet the crooked, incompetent Omissioner wants to extend the already-greuling reg. season by 2 more games. Should that travesty occur, the 2 best teams will not compete for the SB, just the 2 luckiest.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

I was going to say the same thing except I was going to quote Jerry Garcia from Altamont in 1969 (if anyone remembers).

I remember Altamont; did Capt. Trips say "Bummer" there, too, after the stabbing by the Hell's Angels?

Pace is an OLB, so he doesn't really count in the DL dept. Still pretty bad in its own right, though, since Taylor has no business playing every down, and I'm skeptical that Pace will return at 100% even once he's ready to come back (foot injuries suck). Other than that, I agree.

I agree re: WRs. Cutting Clowney and Coles was just dumb, when their week 1 game was against a team with a fantastic front 7 and a weak secondary. Poor roster management on the Jets' part. Someone remind me again why Woodhead made the roster ahead of having a fourth WR? The fact that they re-signed Clowney today just reemphasizes how shortsighted and boneheaded the move was.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

This sucks for Jenkins. I think the Jets will still field the best defense in the league. They lost Jenkins last year but didn't miss a step. I don't see why that's gonna change.

Best of luck to him if it's a career ending injury.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

One thing about Hard Knocks was seeing how much Jenkins loved football. It came off as obnoxious but he had so much passion for being on the field and you could tell he was so excited to be healthy and ready to help his team win. It sucks to see a guy like that get injured no matter what team he plays for.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

I hate injuries. Even to other teams. Dilutes the excellence that makes the NFL The Show these days. Jenkins was a force, an elite NT. Having him this year made last year's Jets D even better. Best wishes to ALL on Welker-like rehabs!

they won't miss a beat IMO.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Always a shame to see players go down injured with the likelihood of it being career ending. Bad luck to Jenkins and best wishes for his rehab.

The Jets can still get stuffed.
