Jenkins wasn't with the team most of last year when it went to the AFCCG. Depth behind Jenkins is not exactly an issue that bolsters your argument.

Yes. And the Jets were very lucky last year. Their entire OL didn't miss a game. Neither did their 2 ILBs, who played practically every single snap of the season. On the DL, they didn't miss anyone except Jenkins and they were deeper with Marques Douglas on the team. And Jenkins lasted 6 games last year, as opposed to 1 quarter this year.

I think the Jets are still OK on DL as long as they avoid any further injury. But that's a big risk.

Too bad for them, and I hope he gets healthy for real life.

I don't think that this affects our game so much since he takes their run-stuffing ability from really good up to great, and we aren't likely to do much running up the gut anyway. I expect we will rely heavily on the short passing game (TEs, Wes, Faulk) and not so much pounding because I don't think it's a good matchup for us with or without Jenkins playing.

They did let their starting DE from last year go and didn't really replace him unless you count Gholston. They also experienced a season ending injury or two for some their back ups this preseason.

Right now they have six d-linemen on their roster. With Jenkins gone, I think they slide Pouha from DE to NT (he replaced Jenkins last year) and move DeVito to starter (DeVito was a back up to Marques Douglas last year). Their back up at NT is Matt Kroul who is an rookie UFA. I would say their depth at NT is worse than it was last year.

I don't know. At this point, I would have more faith with Brace moving inside or Wright or someone on the Pats if Wilfork goes down than an rookie UDFA replacing Pouha.

Jenkins also had a torn ACL end his season in game 1 of 2005. Hope the guy can walk in 10 years.

Pouha is the #2 NT. So, you're talking about Wilfork going down and THEN Brace going down.

Of course every team has their irreplaceable players. The Pats are thin at OLB and NT. We actually got hammered in the worst possible place last year with the Mayo injury. This year, we already have Bodden, McGowan and Warren on IR and Kaczur out for a prolonged period.


My point is that the Jets have less depth and at some point luck is going to catch up with them.

Jets will probably call Marques Douglas and get him back in. Adalius Thomas is in NY right now talking to the Jets but I'm not liking that option. The Jets are in bad shape when it comes to depth at the line. This is not good. But, it's happened every year for the last 3 years. Jenkins always gets hurt during the season.

Pouha was their starting DE opposite Ellis who slid over to NT. So they actually weakened two positions last night. But I am only talking about their depth now. Jenkins is gone. Wilfork is still playing. Whatever the Jets' depth was yesterday is irrelevant.

The Pats already took their depth and starter hit when Ty Warren was put on IR. I mean if we want to count Ty Warren, the Pats' d-line is pretty deep.

That's really too bad for Jenkins, who is a stout player worthy of respect. Unfortunately, it's clear that his body (or at least his knees) aren't cut out for professional football at this stage of his life, and if I were him I'd start thinking about whether I could get down and crawl around on the floor with my kids/grandkids at this rate.

At any rate, I wish him a speedy recovery. I had nothing but respect for him and his game.

Thanks for the nice coments about Jenkins. He's one of my favorite players. Actually, he is going to think about retirement according to a statement made today.

I agree, I do not think it is better than the Jets situation, And while Poahao moving inside might seem like it weakens two positions, I think having him on the outside was a weak spot for the Jets defense.

A thought Brace looked pretty good in the limited snaps he got as a run stuffer. He clearly is better suited for lining up at DE than NT.

Wright has been a starter for almost a year now and Warren has been a starter for a number of years. They may not be great starters, but they are starter quality. The Jets have two starter quality d-linemen since DeVito who is now a starter is now a back up.

I like the Pats back ups better than I like the Jets right now. We are talking depth, not starters.

I have read 10-12 weeks after surgery, so should be back for the last few weeks and playoffs.

Mike Wright is at least as good as Mike DeVito. There is no evidence that either of them can last as a stating DL, but Wright has a better track record of performance in his career. It's possible that Ellis and Pouha are better than Vince and G. Warren. I'm not arguing who's better. But it's pretty obvious that from a depth perspective, Brace and Pryor are better than Gholston.
