OT: Kris Jenkins torn ACL - gone for the season

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

I'm a huge fan of Jenkins, great attitude, great player. The problem for the AFC East is that the Jets D didn't seem to miss a beat after Jenkins left last night. It will be interesting watching the Jets this season. They have roster depth issues, and the pounding style both on the D and their run based offense may take a toll down the line. Will their be enough bodies to be as punishing over the course of the season

Poor fella! That just sucks!

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

If anyone heard BB on WEEI on Monday (pre-Jets game), he went on quite a praise fest for Jenkins. He actually used him in the same sentence as LT (the actual LT). Major loss for the Jets.

The sample size was pretty small, I saw Jenkins pushing the O-line back like a tackle sled. He'll definitely be missed.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Having also had a ruptured ACL (as am sure many others) -i don't wish that on anybody. Is bad luck for him and I wish him the best and hope he has a full recovery. Although have to agree with most other posters - after he has had so many knee injuries, this could very well be the end of his career.

I want the Pats best players to beat soundly the Jets best. Good thing we play them early in the season - before even more players go down. Again - it seems while an 18 game schedule makes business (dollars) sense, it sure doesn't jive with the 'player safety' and putting the 'best product out there' arguments. I could only see it (18 games) making sense if they really limit the offseason workouts, increase practice squads and have a baseball type disabled list (come back during the season). Although that DL list wouldn't help in this case. Best of luck to you Kris.

I remember when the Jets first acquired Jenkins, the consensus seemed to be that he was an impact player but his knees were shot and he just couldn't stay on the field. 100% as advertised all-around. It makes you realize that the HOF-type players with long, consistent careers have to be a little bit lucky as well as good.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

No, they celebrated when Brady went down.

Screw the Jets and their fans.

I don't normally say this, but we should just take the high road. You have to separate the players from their knuckle-dragging fans (to steal a Felger phrase). Jenkins worked his butt off to get back and it does suck to have this happen in the 1st quarter of game 1. A play like that could happen to Vince at any time, so I damn sure am not going to wish it on another.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

So who makes the T-Shirts mocking his misfortune? How many threads should be started laughing at the injury and the state of their team? Should I High Five everyone I know and celebrate the season ending injury or just High Five everyone I see? Because cleary that's the reaction you're supposed to have when something like this happens to a rival player...at least that's what I learned from Jet fans after Brady went down in 2008.

Sarcasm aside, it's a horrible injury because you know it's a career ender. Reminds me a little of what happened to Rodney and how he came back just to get re-injured (although at least Rodney was past his prime and won a couple of Super Bowls). Jenkins had a helluva career and seemed to be well liked by his teammates...tough break.

Well, the Jets were jealous of Brady, and made fun of it because they didn't have a QB like Brady.

Whereas we don't need to be jealous of Jenkins, so I think what you said is harsh.

He is a person first and a Jets player second. Just hope he makes a recovery that allows him to lead a normal life after football.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

I hope his next surgery is a complete success, and I hope it allows him to play again if he chooses.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

I hope he recovers, i never thought he'd make it for a full season, but i never thought it would happen this quickly.

Screw the fans? Sure, but unless Jenkins celebrated TB's injury, no reason to not wish him well in his recovery.

Guys don't get hurt in preseason?

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Jenkins is an elite DL when he was healthy, Weight + knee issues + problem. Hate to see a player having their career derailed like this.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Wow! That sucks. Want to see the Jets go up in flames, but not through serious injuries.

While I absolutely agree with you, injuries are part of the game. And this underscores the problem with the Jets' approach to the draft. When you draft 17 players total over a 4 year period, you're bound to have depth problems. The Jets have serious depth issues now at ILB, OL, DL and OLB.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Bummer for him. Good luck on the recovery Kris.

Jenkins wasn't with the team most of last year when it went to the AFCCG. Depth behind Jenkins is not exactly an issue that bolsters your argument.

Agreed, and they played pretty well in the game last night after he left, so I'm not sure this makes a huge difference.

My sympathies to Jenkins though. Hate to see this kind of thing, and I would much rather beat the Jets at full strength anyway.

Re: Jenkins ACL - gone for the season

Man, this is Jenkins, what, 5th season ending surgery. He's got Rodney-itis.

Bummer for the man. I loved his quotes, before he became a Jet and all. Wasn't it Jenkins the one who said of Warren Sapp: "His breath stinks, his soul stinks, basically everything about him stinks..." Gotta love it.

For the Jets, this is what you get when you trade entire drafts to move up in round 1. Depth is going to be a big issue with this team, especially if they lose any more linemen.
