Per Adam Scheftler (NFLN)--

KC DE Jared Allen will meet with Minny on Friday. He is looking for a long term big $$ deal.

Tampa Bay is also a player. Jacksonville was interested but have withdrawn.

I can see the Pats being a big player in any trade negotiations.

I don't KC. They have a ton of cap room even with Allen's franchise tag tender, they only have 56-57 players on the roster, and they were totally inactive in free agency. Now they want to trade one of their best young players?

I think they may be an example of a team suffering because of the CBA affecting a smaller revenue team.

pats and kc have been organizationally close to each other-always supported each other in club meetings so wouldnt surprise me if the pats enter the sweepstakes depending on if BB thinks how he can fit our 3-4 scheme.

My post was a joke on the speculation during every big free agent sweepstakes.

He is probably going to be deemed not sober enough to play in our 3-4 scheme.

God.. ANytime there is a possible Free agent or player being trade, someone posts how the pats could use him..

Lets be honest.. What this means is KC going to draft a DL (gholston or ellis).. Which means Ryan is going to fall if he passes by Atlanta.. Which is awesome for us.. Carolina, Chicago or Baltimore will trade up for him.. THis means extra picks for us

I've read that KC has Ellis #2 on their draft board, so if he's available at 5 they should pick him. But, like I mentioned in the McNair thread, I think it's silly for them to weaken their line (or, if Ellis is as good as Allen, maintain it) just because they can't agree on a long term contract. That line would be stronger with both players, but I guess Peterson doesn't feel a strong DL is that important. :bricks:

It does look good with respect to finagling a trade with a team who wants Ryan, unless he's slipping on draft boards. If he's Quinn part 2, the Pats may have to stand pat (so to speak). The linemen (defensive and offensive) definitely seem to be rising, though.

Kiper and McShay report they should draft a OL with that #5 pick because after pick 15 there won't be any of the top 5 OL available..

But I agree with you for this point.. There are only TWO top rated DT where there are 5 TOP RATED OL.. Secure your DT spot with Ellis and take a chance with getting one of the OL with the second pick.. If they dont', draft a CB.. Madison is old and Law is gone.. There is a need..

My take.. Why give guaranteed money to a guy that is one more DUI or inncident away from being banned for a year..

This assumes that teams are willing to trade up for Ryan which is a huge assumption.

But once he signs the tender, that salary is guaranteed, so why offer the tender? You'd have to have a trade worked out in advance or hope he doesn't sign it or you're taking the same risk.

I get the feeling that Allen's going for the gold: get traded and get a big contract now to avoid the risk of injury and missing that contract next year, and that it's him and his agent who are pursuing the trade. Unfortunately for him, KC sounds like they're looking for a fair amount in return, and there aren't a lot of teams who will trade a high pick and give him a big contract. For KC, any trade would have to be at least equivalent to 1 year of Allen's service and any compensatory pick they'd get in return. Plus, KC could always franchise him two years in a row, if they really want to play hard ball.

There doesn't need to be tons of interest, there just needs to be someone afraid of a ton of interest--or afraid that the Ratbirds might take him.

Someone may well trade up for Ryan but in recent years no one has traded up into the top of the draft for the sliding QBs (Rodgers, Leinart, Quinn).

There also needs to be no interest in the Jets in trading down which reports say they are interested in doing since the team worried about not getting Ryan would then worry that they could get jumped and need to go to 6.

And now we are realizing why they are a terrible team...

No mock draft or analyst say is falls past 5.. So if he falls 7, you'll have a ton of teams gunning for him.. Not a reach at all

No way jets take him.. They need to win now.. not tomorrow.. They need DMC or impact player.

Unfortunately those same analyst tend to be pretty inaccurate. Brady Quinn might have been the number 1 pick last year, according to many. If not, number 3 and no lower than 9 to the Dolphins. There's a perfectly good chance that a lot of teams don't like Ryan. Of course, Baltimore NEEDS Ryan. But I can't say for sure that they LIKE him.
