So with Adam Schefter releasing a picture of hospital records is someone going to be in trouble? I mean I would assume hospital should be but does espn have any worries here?

No, and HIPAA is yet another one of the many Godawful 'reforms' that Americans were stupid enough to accept in recent decades.

We really are a stupid nation of people.

I'm not sure we should be so hasty to blame the hospital. The question is also "who had access to that info OUTSIDE of the Hospital.

Does it really take a stretch of the imagination to think that the NFL has flexed their discipline muscle here just as they did demanding Brady turn over a phone regarding deflated footballs that weren’t actually deflated.

Pierre-Paul has no choice but to “reasonably cooperate” in an investigation.

So assuming the NFL had them, isn’t it interesting that once again ESPN gets a leak? Unlike the Brady situation, where the NFL purposefully leaked false information that it declined to clarify for 4 months, it looks like ESPN actually got the story right this time thanks to sources that wanted the records leaked.

Seeing as this is now a FEDERAL privacy issue, one would assume the federal government, in their investigation, might want to consider whether Goodell himself is the source of this info. The guy is a weasel who won’t even let the lack of deflated footballs stop him in a deflated football scandal.

But I don’t think the feds have any choice BUT to consider all possibilities and ESPN certainly is effectively the NFL’s network as all will attest.

ESPN is like the NFL. They don't worry about no stinkin' HIPPA ****. They just do what they want.

Did anyone get the pic of JPP's medical records before Schefter took it down?

Schemer is in violation of Floridas privacy laws. ESPN will get sued for this one.

Depends on where the picture came from. If it came from a member of JPP's family, I think that's legal. If it came from a hospital employee, then that's bad news for the hospital. In either case, though, I don't think it affects ESPN.

I don't think he took it down, it's still on his Facebook page.

Picture is still up as far as I can tell.

How is he going to sign a contract now?

Christ, I just spent my whole damn day at work dealing with freakin' HIPAA, and now I get to come here and read about JPP's... I need a drink.

Hey JPP, how many rings Tom Brady got? Just show us your right hand.

Careful now, or someone might crack a joke about a war that happened 70 years ago, and people will get all out of sorts...

@AaronNagler
There is language in the CBA where players basically waive HIPPA rights.

I believe that applies to teams releasing information about a player's injury. It would not be a privacy rights violation if a team said player so-and-so suffered a shin contusion and will be out 2 weeks (I know the notion of a team talking about a player's health is foreign to us Patriots fans, but there are actually teams that would make such a statement)

I don't think the CBA gives a hospital the right to release private info, nor do I find Schefter posting it to be a terribly honorable thing.

While JPP may have waived his HIPAA rights, those look like computer systems that the family would not normally have access to (and certainly wouldn't photograph like that).

I expect that someone at that hospital is, in fact, going to get fired, because hospitals really don't like it when VIP info is leaked like that.

ETA: Many hospital record systems have VIP flags that restrict access. So, for example, in this case, only the people directly involved in his care (and administrators who would need access as a rule) would be able to see it. Access would also be logged to make sure no one was accessing it for "voyeuristic" reasons.

Theyre going down with JPP!

Hey, Richard, how many fingers does JPP have on his right hand now?

HIPPA protects us from corporations taking advantage of our health situations. If people's medical information was not kept private, many would avoid seeking treatment for a wide variety of ailments. STD rates would skyrocket. The only people I can imagine that would oppose HIPPA would be those vested in industries that use others' medical information for financial gain.

I think it's more probable than not that ESPN had or paid someone to break HIPAA rules so they could break this story. If that is the case they are in bigger trouble than the leaker.

Because he's a DL, upper body strength is JPP's bread n butter. Without your index finger how can u lift, to maintain that strength?
Look at your hand and see the space between your thumb n your middle finger. Without an index finger how does JPP grip a football? Recover a fumble?

You can still lift weights.. Dumbbells or barbells. The index finger will not impact that at all. As for picking up a fumble or gripping a football, you can to that with 3 or 4 fingers and your thumb.. It would have been a bigger deal if JPP lost his THUMB.

I agree that the loss of an index finger could seriously impact his hand fighting, ball handling and even tackling, but one can effectively maintain upper body strength without it.
