OT: If you're color blind, Thursday Night Football will not be for you

I'm sure it would depend on the opposing team. We likely wouldn't wear all red against, say, the Chiefs.

I'm not sure if it's standard scheduling but most TNF games seem to be against division rivals with the exception of the odd TNF games such as the season openers or the Thanksgiving day games which I think are based on traditional teams.

So a Bills game would be the only game the Pats would not wear red based on what the Bills wore during their last years TNF game.

You hit the nail on the head - sort of. Yes it's about merchandising sales but you're wrong to say it won't increase those sales.

Seeing players and coaches wearing something in a game increases sales for that item exponentially.

I can't wait to see Belichick in all red from head to toe.

It's all about merchandising and if you think about it, the jerseys themselves aren't really all that ugly (except maybe St. Louis). Heck, in a few cases, the jerseys were just like the normal home jerseys that teams wear. It's just a way to give fans yet another jersey to buy.

Yeah, I'd be pretty shocked if this wasn't the owner's idea. Goodell is a moron and deserves a lot of the blame for the NFL's incompetence but, the owners get nowhere near the flack they deserve. Goodell is good at taking the blame. Legendary actually.

Some design executive at Nike was tasked with the job of coming up with new designs. So he had his team work on it. They come up with "color rush." So he brings it to his boss who brings it to his boss who brings it to someone at the NFL. Suggestions are made and sales projections are run. That guy discusses it with his colleagues and they eventually bring it all the way up to their bosses where it eventually makes it to Goodell's desk (probably in the form of a 20 minute PPT presentation). Goodell then talks to a few owners about it, including those of the affected teams, who give their approval.

So to sit there and say that all of this was "Goodell's idea"'shows a pretty fundamental lack of understanding the whole process. It's a silly idea, which has many hands on it, and certainly originated in the bowels of the Nike marketing and design offices.

I was never a fan of the trend that started about 15 years ago, for teams to wear conservative "business suit" uniforms. What most sticks in my mind was the Broncos dropping their "Orange Crush" jerseys for navy blue. The Patriots changing from red to blue and then to navy blue jerseys was part of what was happening throughout the league. Recently, there has been some pushback, as Denver has brought back orange jerseys. That being said, the insanity of "color rush" is hard to defend on anything but marketing grounds. "Garish Garb" is a better name for the Thursday night games.
