OT: Holley Leaving WEEI

you knew holley was looking to move on. at times he was soooo exasperated with dale arnold it was funny to listen to.

don't really care if he stays or goes, his commentary was sometimes thoughtful, sometimes idiotic, sometimes insightful and always boring. I swear, at times, the guy could make listening to paint drying sound exciting.

Holley has always been my "go to guy" for factual information on the Patriots, as he has had access to the locker room when writing some of his books he always had great insight.. he knew way more than most of these mediots..

Time for him to make a change, have to wonder if writing books, preparing for his radio show, doing radio and then going on TV at night was too much drain on a family man.. wish him well as he was usually a voice of reason, in a part of media that usually does not relish the idea of reason.. hysteria and controversy is much better.
Agree.

Quality of life has to be a factor here. The guy was working 16 hr days.

I don't know what Holley was pulling in for $ but I'm sure he was making good cake. His wife is a corporate lawyer so I'm assuming they aren't hurting for funds.

I listen to Boston Sports Tonight podcast and I like his spots.

Since there isn't as much time to fill ( four hosts, more guests, more commercials ) they don't go out on tangents as much as drive-time radio.

The podcast boils down four hours of TV to twenty minutes of content.

Too bad Cayse is moving on, but I'm sure they'll find someone to fill her role.

I like Holley. I agree with other posters, Thornton would be a good replacement. I get the impression he left over "creative differences". Mind you, I don't have facts, just opinion. At Barstool, he can say whatever the hell he wants. At EEI, he has to toe the company line.

Wow. He was the only guy I would tune into on a regular basis. Well I'll wish him well. But damn that show is going to take a hit.

I lost a lost of respect for Holley during the whole Wickersham kerfuffle. He was going on and on about just waiting until the end of the season to "trade Garropolo"...apparently being blissfully unaware that he was going to be a Free Agent.

What his job, again?

Mut’s getting liquored up right now, all excited for his big shot.

I'll say this. If WEEI promotes Tomase to afternoons, we all riot.

I say they can Keefe and hire Tomase and Curt Schilling.

It would make for interesting radio but get old quick.

Poor Dale would be worn to a nub after 20 minutes referee-ing those two blowhards.

I can’t stand Thornton, he’s among the many who I would turn it off if they go there. Same goes for most of their likely replacements.

I've always liked MH because for the most part he has a good positive vibe about him.

The past year or so I have really been tuning out of sports radio.. I'll turn it on everyone once in a while but I find more often than not I turn it off as they're just so obvious/childish/not funny/purposely obtuse. I love sports and always will, but most of these shows are now about the hosts, not the teams or players.

Most of the time now I just listen to my tunes.. Bassnectar, Biggie and Rush dominate any of the noise coming from those "sports" stations.

EEI is dead. Ruined by the corporate suits form NYC, just as they planned when they bought the station.Probably be a country station by the summer.

He may have access....but he doesn’t have any insider info or anything factual data that may support or contradict things like Wikersham article, the Butler saga, Gronkowski drama, etc.
I like him though. I’ve downloaded that podcast daily for years.

Was listening to the show last Thursday and towards the end of the show he announced he was quitting. That day. No real notice, just goodbye. I'm pretty disappointed.

I started out watching D&C. That was my favorite. They slowly started to grate on me with Callahan's increased talk of politics. Even worse, they started to get boring. Way too much time devoted to non sports topics. Eventually I got to the point where I couldn't stand listening and stopped.

Next I moved on to the mid day show. They were my favorite for a while. Then they became cartoon characters. Lou developed his Angry Lou shtick. Fauria became an even bigger meat head douche. And I find myself rarely listening to that show anymore. It's to much of a circus act. I really don't like it.

Then I really started to appreciate the professionalism of the afternoon show. Specifically Holley. He was basically the entire reason I listened to that show. I really have nowhere else to go. I know there is another station in Boston, but I don't even know what it's called. I also know they have Felger and Mazz on. There is no way I am listening to either of them. Can't stand either of them and I don't respect them.

Oh, well, I still have Bill Simmons when he isn't rambling about reality TV or some other nonsense that 90% of sports fans could not care less about.

Never implied that he did, what he did know is how the Pats Operation works from a much different perspective than most of the media representatives in the NE area, he provided balance and understanding the opposite of what usually happens in sports talk..

"Voice of reason" may be hyperbole, imo he and Curran are the closest to that standard..
