OT: Haley stripped Weis of play calling duties

Matt learned well here, he is not about to get into it with the HC vs. the former OC.

Thinking back to yesterday one thing I did notice was that Haley didn't look like a guy who was surprised by the 4th and one call, just chagrinned that it didn't remotely work... In other words throughout the second half he wasn't nearly as animated as he usually is when things weren't going well. Whether that had to do with whose ideas or plans were being implemented and not working is anyone's guess... I was expecting more obvious involvement and fire out of him after burning a TO on the ridiculous challenge flag early on... And FWIW the HC calls 4th and inches based on having a play in the gameplan situational pipeline as something they are convinced will work. Personally at 6'5" I'd have just had Matt fall forward...

It's not about Cassel. It's about the source:

Appearing on one of the station’s other shows, Fescoe explained that he received two text messages from patrons of a pizza shop that Weis supposedly frequents.

Pioli's first big mistake. They had it going pretty good, Weis was doing an outstanding job. Everyone on that team knows it. Haley throws a fit because he can't stand Charlie and Romeo getting all the attention (because they are doing all the work and doing it the Patriot way). Haley was the Randy Moss of the Chiefs! So instead of backing team oriented hard working staff he follows a stupid chain of command rule and backs a self absorbed malcontent. IF BB had followed such rules Bledsoe would have got his job back when he was ready to return. It takes guts to make those decisions but in the end its pretty simple. Just do the right thing.

Great post rook!

My brother is Bruce W. Wicked pissah, eh?

This is inline with my thinking that Pioli is just running the show, signing players and coaches he knows, and either Haley doesn't care or he's not allowed to have a opinion in the matter. Shouldn't Haley be signing HIS guys?

As far as the play calling, something irked Weiss weeks before this playoff game, and pushed him into wanting another job, and making it public, all during the season. Most coaches at least wait until the season is over so it doesn't cause a distraction.

And I though that Caldwell was an idiot for calling the timeout...this just takes it. Just throw out a whole weeks worth of work on a whim, in the playoffs, when the game is still close.

I wonder if he plans on entering the draft the same day and just pulls random names from a hat.

Charlie Weiss has multiple Superbowl Rings, while Todd Haley had one cinderella year with Arizona and I'm not convinced it wasn't mostly because of Ken Whisenhunt's coaching more than Haley's.

It's a shame, Haley is a horrible coach and is also tearing apart that time.

Jamaal Charles is so wasted on that team. He only got 10 touches the whole game.

Thats what many people outside of football don't understand. This is a game decided by inches. By split-second decisions. By luck. By preparation. By chance. A great decision can work out great. A logical move can result in disaster. A "gut" call can win a Super Bowl. It's sports. Football is different though.

That is why Bill is so finite in perpetration. He knows it's a privilege to win on Sundays. He knows the course of a game is impacted by his decisions. If he makes the wrong move, the Pats are in trouble. If he makes the right move, they are in a better position to succeed. If he has a lousy game plan or doesn't make the necessary adjustments and ensure that his team is PREPARED, they will lose.

They say that good MLB managers will win you 3-5 games a year. NHL and NBA, around the same amount. But in the NFL, a GREAT coach will win you 5-10 games. It's the decisions that matter.

Caldwell killed his team in Sat. It's pathetic that the wider national audience doesn't realize this.

The Chiefs were who we thought they were and the Ravens exposed it. I hope they sign Haley to a long-term deal that guy is everything you'd want in a head coach

If it wasn't for all our injuries and our special team players riding the short bus to games the general populous wouldn't have had to endure such an awful playoff game.

He got hurt, he fumbled the ball and he completely blew a blitz pickup that damn near got Cassel killed. You figure he should have been getting all kinds of love after that?

He got hurt in the 1st half.

Exactly. That's what KC fans can't seem to acknowledge...

Schefter is now reporting that a source within the Chief is categorically denying that Weis was stipped of playcalling, in fact insisting he called the entire game including (of course) the toss sweep. Of course, those plays are all essentially the perview of the HC who decides whether to go for it and signs off on supposedly having the best play ready for the situation... Haley looked like he could not believe it didn't work, not like he could not believe it was the call. I also believe you can get around the charge semantically if Charlie was essentially being told what kind of plays to call...by a guy who expected his directions to be followed.

The source did however also confirm to Schefter that things had deteriorated between Haley and Weis to the point Charlie was not coming back next season irrespective of the Florida offer. Weren't going to be able to work together. I believe Matt termed that as Haley letting folks know what he wanted done (which apparently included benching Matt for a series a couple of weeks ago - another sign of Haley's impatience and temper issues). So I wouldn't doubt Charlie felt his playcalling duties were being taken away if not in fact then in essence.

Charlie has a temper and an ego too so I can't imagine this is the last we will hear of it...

Its KC damage control if you ask me. Ala NE, when Moss blew a gasket in Miami. Everyone denied that happened too.

Haley is like little Hitler. Hes gotten into it with Bowe and Waters. A player (IIRC Cassel) joked at 2010 KC Chiefs dinner post training camp that Weis should recieve an award for surviving a camp with Haley.

Its been a long time, and Weis is not perfect, but does anyone recall a 4th and short call where Weis opted for a slow developing sweep like that?

I cant.

As with any coordinator he can have a bad series/ game. He can even have some bad moments throughout the season. The bottom line is does he do a good job overall? And I think for the most part he did. As a coordinator that is not as HC in ND.
