OT: Darn! There goes my pipe dream! (Colts sign Sanders to extension)

Good signing, Sanders is the cog that makes the Colts D work. Clark on franchise tag is also sensible and inevitable. My only question mark is around the Colt's management negotiating skills. They always seem to pay the highest dollar amount which sets expectations for all other deals. They should have got Freeney for at least 10m less and Sanders for 5m less. They did the same with Manning, Harrison and Wayne. So the pattern is set and the agents know it..... Once you get the rep for being a big payer its very hard to change. End result is loose change for all those that have to plug the holes.

Have to laugh though at Colt's fans on this board appraising defensive skills and players, when for this whole decade they have concentrated on offense. Dissing Henderson and Stroud on the Jaguars while giving creds to Taylor and Jones Drew just emphasizes the focus on offense. The myopia around other teams' great D players is amazing. Oeminyura, James Harrison, Van Den Bosch,Kampman, Peppers (tho not this season), Willis, Springs, Taylor (RIP alas) Faneca - the list is just too long (and I haven't mentioned a Patriot because you dont have to wear homer glasses to see skills in other teams). Yes DF and BS belong on one of the top groups, but realistically its the top 50 not top 5.

According to Adam Schefter Sanders received a $8 million signing bonus. The Colts would then be able to prorate 1/6 of that in the 2007 season. Adamjt13 reported on another board that the Colts were under the cap by $7.8 million as of 10 days ago.

Thanks Miguel... you're the man.

The playoffs has only exacerbated everything I said here. Colts had absolutely no pass rush out there without Freeney and with Mathis/Brock just coming back from injury. I've never seen a pass rush so miss one player as the Colts missed Freeney. Went from one of the most feared pass rushes in football to lame just like that. As I said earlier in the year, Freeney is the best defensive player in football.

Stroud and Henderson? lol, Henderson makes one play the whole game against the Pats. As I said, not even close. Like I said, MJD and Taylor are both really really good player, clearly the two best on that team.

Merriman makes one play in two playoff games against Colts and Pats. Not even the best OLB on his team. Shaun Phillips is a stud. Merriman is a very good player, but not close to Freeney. No way a rookie like Tony Ugoh could single team Freeney the way he did Merriman.

Congrats Pats' fans on an amazing season and team! Just wanted to go back to this post. Tried to get on last week, but your board was down on Monday.
