it would be hilarious if 44 year old Rivers came off his couch and beat SEA, who is

#1 in point differential
#1 in DVOA
#2 in SRS

This is absolutely the biggest story of the day. More than Pats & Bills, more than Packers @ Broncos, or DET @ LAR.
This is a historic situation to see a "washed up" ex-player come back for one last ride. Like Ray Hobbs or Jim Morris, this would put Rivers in the legend category. I'm extremely curious. But I really hope he doesn't completely suck and get embarrassed, or horribly injured.

I love the reset of the HOF. Take his chances in 5 years, especially if Flacco and Rodgers decide to hang around another year.

Who the f*ck is Ray Hobbs? Do you mean, Roy Hobbs, the fictional character from the book & movie, The Natural? Yes, he was a fictional legend.

Same here. Everybody’s asking why the Colts would do this, and I think that answer’s clear. They had the choice between somebody who could play somewhat but didn’t know the offense at all and somebody who knew the offense but probably couldn’t play worth a damn and decided to roll the dice on the latter.

But why is Rivers risking life, limb and reputation against a potent defense? Just for fun, to relive glory days? Just to see if he can do it? To return to national relevance and get some other kind of gig? Ego? Boredom? Why? And why didn’t his family stage an intervention?

It's a pretty good paycheck for 3 hours of work.

By then he'll have 15 kids and about 3 grandchildren. Might have to keep trying to get paid.

I think his reputation will be fine. I think most normal people will be fair and won’t put an asterisk on his career for this return.

I saw the end of the Colts/Seahawks game only because Rivers was playing.
I thought Rivers still shot puts the ball when he throws.
I also thought he can't make every pass an nfl qb needs to make to succeed in the league.
I also thought he didn't appear very elusive in the pocket (perhaps he never was?)
the difference between he and Darnold the last few drives if the game was startling. Darnold has a gun and is accurate. Rivers was shot putting the ball from behind the los to less that 10 yard routes. when he had to throw longer, he looked bad.

Rivers did well, as well as almost any QB against SEA. SEA is one of the top teams in the NFL. Unbelievably, he gave the colts a chance and came very close to upsetting SEA.

More importantly, doing so for essentially vet minimum? I think with the performance-based pay, he's going to get something like $300K.

$300K can buy a lot of diapers & wipes... and Enfamil too; his wife's titties gotta be empty by now...
Coach cap well I never...

I was actually a little shocked at how well he played overall. I really expected him to go out and embarrass himself. Then after watching it occurred to me (cause I'm slow on the uptake sometimes) that they probably worked him out a bit before saying yeah lets go with grampa over the kid or whoever else is available.

Rivers playing again is quite the story
but the truth is that his yards gained per pass attempt and his yards gained by pass completion, were about half his career average, including his last season at age 39.

To extend free health insurance for him and all 10 kids* for another 5 years.

*As of December 15, 2025.

People think I’m joking when I say Rivers only came back for health insurance. I’m dead ass serious..

This too. That and he just made 300k for 3 hours work.

I think most 44 year olds would jump at that chance.

I think you misunderstood what I wrote. That should be roughly what he earns for all four games combined. Per Spotrac and OverTheCap, he's earning vet minimum, with a cap hit of about $230K.
