Off an underrated album, Burden in my Hand is another good song from it.

To me though, nothing is more badass then Rusty Cage.

Hope it's not heresy to put Audioslave stuff here, but I loved popping their first album into a CD player, turning the volume up and hearing this song:

Just not the same to me without Layne Staley.
in my opinion. they are just as good if not better. if you haven't heard their last two albums you should check them out. i love them. almost forgot. LIVE just reunited. another great band from the 90s that i love.

Only Kurt Cobain was foolish enough to do that. Legend has it that, fresh out of rehab, Kurt wanted to get his life together and leave with their young daughter. The prenup would have left her with next to nothing.

Fortunately for her, Kurt somehow figured out how to use a shotgun on himself with a lethal amount of heroin in his system before he filed for divorce. All the witnesses/suspects were junkies so no real investigation was done. Courtney inherits about $150M in Nirvana royalties.
Yea it's pretty hard to believe she wasn't involved

Sad news. I have been watching and listening to him doing a number of accoustic covers on YouTube lately and really liked it. What a shame.

I'm gut punched
Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)
Layne Staley (Alice in Chains)
Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots)
Chris Cornell (Soundgarden)

Only Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) is left from the top grunge bands.

I wouldn't call STP grunge.. they were a great band though and obviously from that era.

Tool and Pearl jam are still in tact. Tool is clearly not grunge but there best music was in the 90's.

I doubt it was Heroin that killed him, if it was Heroin he most likely would have OD'ed like Staley.

He hung himself, so we have no idea why he killed himself. Depression.. guilty conscience.. Chronic Pain.. mixed with drugs and alcohol who the **** knows.

What I find most strange about a suicide like this... is that it was during a tour?? Right in the middle of a tour and you decide now is the time. Unless I am wrong that seems very fishy to me. A murder made to look like a suicide?

STP was grunge but not from Seattle. I think they were from SoCo as was EV.

IIRC they found Staley two weeks after he died. He weighed about 80 lbs.

Not shocked CC is dead but suicide doesn't compute at his ago. Theoretically he's been through the worst. Maybe the reality of being an aging rock star was too much of a reality to deal with.

All speculation....

when is it ever a good time to kill yourself? maybe it was an impulsive decision.

Of course there is no right time to kill yourself, but you would think during a tour your mind is busy thinking about tomorrow and your performance. And just busy working in general. Maybe he handled his life like absolute ****.. maybe he was losing his voice and he had no money in the bank.. maybe your right and it was impulsive. That is so sad though. I was never his biggest fan out of the 4 that are dead he was #4 for me. But I saw him perform live with Audio Slave and he was really good.

Some things that make some people great are the same things that kill them in the end.

Yes STP were from California. They were amazing live in there Prime...and I have seen just about every band from many era's. They were right up there. They don't get enough credit as live performers.. They were metal/alternative mixed with other sub genre's of rock and roll. When I think of grunge I think Nirvana, Alice n chains and early Pearl jam.

And they could literally mimic Zeppelin, Scott and Dean were extremely talented.

Little off the point, but the thing about Staley is that, unlike Kurt and Chris, he essentially died very slowly.

No one knew much about him during the last five years or so of his life. His health along with his physical appearance deteriorated immensely. Look at the last pictures of him that are known to the public (which even those are years before his death), and it will tell you how bad he got in his last few years. Rumor has it that many news outlets even had an obituary prepared for him, because they had heard how bad of shape he was in, and that it was looked at to be unforunately only a matter of time.

I'd say that Staley's death, though just as tragic, was the least surprising of the grunge singers due to the way the last few years of his life ended.

Absolutely Alice n Chains were 1 of the best bands at least of there era and MTV wouldn't pay tribute to them because of the way Layne decided to go down.

unfortunately because of Laynes massive drug addiction I never got to see him perform live. One of the few bands that I missed.

Never had seen STP live. Huge regret. Huge.

One of his most beautiful songs:

And since there's a lot of people in here that are fans of rock and roll from the 90's I'll let you know that Veruca Salt recently got back together a couple of years ago with their original lineup in case you never knew. Here's their first song after reuniting and I think they still kick ass:

No, but I'm sure by now you've both heard the very last song that he played yesterday at the concert. A cover of Led Zepplin's "In my time of dying." Sad.
I didn't know that. ****.

Me too. Oh man. Back in the early 90's, no one could wail like Layne. One of the most powerful voices I've ever heard. Prime example:

Shivers.
