re: OT: Browns fire Mangini's ops assistant Erin O'Brien - followed him from Pats
I think people hate Mangini more than they need to. He's not very personable, but we don't need to deal with him up close on a daily basis.
Having said that, I was very surprised that he had found a gig so soon after his last job. Obviously, he has trouble being a "leader of men" and that was evident right away when he got the guys to travel by bus to a camp (and several instances with NY).
In short - Browns' fans can say what they want about Eric... truth is that since the team was reborn in 99, it's been a colossal failure on the field. That speaks to the crappiness of the ownership and the lack of leadership in management. Mangini has been there since spring... who's to blame for the 9 years before that ?
By firing Mangini, they are just continuing to admit what everyone knows : the front office blows. But, I suppose getting the Chin would be a legit step towards winning - players would respect him as a real coach, a proven winner, and he doesn't strike me as someone who'll put up with shananigans.
