I look forward to him saying "I won't play for anyone but the Patriots".

If he said that the Jets fans would be up in arms about the Patriots paying him off etc etc

Wow, I really hate Miami for this shenanigan. I think they need to institute a draft lottery.

Let's face it, a lot of the Pats unprecedented success over the last ten years has been lack of strong opposing quarterbacks in this division. If we played in the NFC East, you're looking at playing 4-6 games a year against QBs that are capable of torching you.

Who are the best the Pats have faced in the AFC East in the Brady era? Pennington (I think he was very solid and underrated, but injuries took a toll), Sanchez! (horrible, horrible quarterback who will eventually lead to a franchise reset), Edwards, Henne, Losman... this list goes on and on. Fitzpatrick is decent, but we'll see.

Pat Kirwin on SIRIUS NFL Radio took exception to a Colts fan caller suggesting that the Colts suck for Luck. Claimed he knew Polian and that Polian would NEVER do that. The players would revolt if benched for #2s as they would feel their careers hurt and that Caldwell would not harm his career.

Next call, a Broncos fan suggested that Denver with the Loyd trade, etc. was sucking for Luck.
Too funny.

Maybe we should coin the term "Lucking" - meaning to play poorly or sucking in the hopes of landing Andrew Luck.

Why is it that EVERY Football analyst and mediot is ALREADY crowning this kid the next Peyton....Elway.....Montana.....or Brady??? I mean the kid hasn't even played ONE down in the accelerated game that is the NFL and already they are all salivating over who will get the "next great one" in next year's draft! I remember a certain #1 pick that came out the same year as Drew Bledsoe....and he was going to be the next Marino.....going to challenge all the records....and win countless SB's......you might remember his name.....Ryan Leaf????

Have you seen him play? That's why the hype. Another guy that's good is Ostweiler and Foyles. They aren't good like Luck.

And Ryan Leaf didn't come out the same year as Bledsoe. They both played for the Cougars at different times.

any team but Indy and Miami

Well, if Luck's dad really does want to try and steer him to a good franchise, I foresee he will never play a down in Miami, if they draft him. As for Indy, you have to figure the uncertainty of the Manning situation would play a role...who wants to go sit behind Manning for however long if he does come back ready to play?

Colts have been given clear orders to "Suck for Luck". Did anyone just catch the Colts / Bengals game on the Network ?

WOW, Pierre Garcon after a catch while being tackled literally exposed the ball in his right arm straight up in the air into Bengal traffic PURPOSELY!. Fumble, close game is now a 10 point game with 2 minutes to go. I mean King Polian, atleast make it look good, atleast mask this tanking process better than what we're seeing. Oh my word, it was so damn blatant what Garcon did. If anyone gets a chance to see it, check out Garcon's fumble, WOW.

Colts had a late game-tying field goal blocked. Mmmmmm, interesting I haven't seen or heard of a Colts FG being blocked in a long, long time.

Dallas Clark mysteriously had the ball ripped out of his arms, that's never happened, wow, Mmmm
I don't know man, I just don't know, this is looking shakey.

This crap has to be looked at by the Commish, man it's clear as day.

Mallet, who also is a son of a Coach, stands 6-6 250, and has sound mechanics, good touch, and is a hard worker, who more than satisfied Bill Belichick with his football knowledge and as "a student of the game". Mallett has the strongest arm in football, the one thing that all QBs need to do, which is Pass the ball. Mallett started at Michigan, a true football power and transfered when LLoyd Carr retired, and the new Coach was a proponent of the Single Wing, aka Wildcat. He then played in the SEC, the best collegiate football, in a pro scheme.

Mallett is not a runner though. Runners haven't won too many Superbowls, or exactly ANY, though. But then neither Brady nor Montana, nor Marino, nor Unitas nor Namath were runners either, [and neither was Elway when he won his SBs], and it did not appear to be a detriment to their careers.

First of all...

Steve Young says hi. 722 carries, 4,239 yds, 43 TDs

Tarkenton was a great one. Multiple SBs.

Elway took the Broncos to two SBs in his early years.

Second of all...Luck isn't a running QB. He has a whopping 13 carries this year. Though his past success running the ball clearly show he has the athleticism to scramble and get yards when necessary.

There's a reason people are saying the things they are about Luck, just like there's a reason Mallett fell to the 4th.

I don't understand why people would get all butthurt that they are talking the kid up. Unless you have a good reason to think he won't be any good, why would you care?

I say with assuredness that Andrew Luck will be the starting QB of (insert team) by week 1 of 2012

That would exclude the Colts unless Manning calls it quits

QBs like Luck that people have drooled over for the past few years finally comes out,no way he holds a clipboard for a few years.

If the Colts are going to shank the season it's because they want a boatload of picks by teams trading many of their picks to move up by wanting an apparent Franchise QB....plain and simple.

Who says that Luck won't pull a John Elway or Eli Manning at the expense of the worst team come draft time?

You never know when one of these guys decides he does not want to play there.

Andrew Luck can do it all, a lot like Aaron Rodgers, he's mobile, and can throw down the field or short and intermediate passes very well. He's also a great competitor. I think you will be surprised how good he will be in the NFL

OK, say he does. Then the team with the #1 pick can unleash a spectacular bidding war. Same as if, say, Carolina gets the #1 pick.

The main point is that the combo of the top QB prospect in years and a rookie cap make this year's #1 pick enormously valuable, at a huge premium over the #2 pick. It doesn't happen nearly as often in the NFL as the NBA, but the fact that it can happen at all makes some kind of draft lottery worth considering.

Elway had one thing in his back pocket a lot of people forget about. He signed with the Yankees and was threatening to go play baseball. The Colts don't get anything if he does that. And, he absolutely made the correct call. Not wanting to play for Robert Irsay and Frank Kush. America. It's a free country.

One thing to also note is Both Eli and Elway both won Super Bowls for the team they actually agreed to play for.

Indy took over 2 decades after Elway's refusal to get the Job done and of course San Diego came close but faced an unbeatable SF team in that SB.

I'd love to see the Patriots trade for the kid. The Pandemonium throughout the NFL AND the Patriots fan base would be something on a level never seen before over a draft pick.

Already got Mallet. Pats won't get close to Luck unless the Saints unexpectedly tank. Right now it's a horse derby race between Miami and Indy to see who sucks enough to end up with luck. I don't think there have ever been two teams to ever go 0-16 in the same season, but those teams are challenging for that distinction right now!

Having Mallet means nothing.

Please no. The NBA draft lottery is such a JOKE. the worst teams never get the help they need because they end up picking 3rd or 4th when they should be picking 1st. The Celtics got screwed over by missing out on Duncan. Just DON'T even mention a lottery for the NFL, not even in jest.

I don't care if the Dolphins or the Colts end up with Luck. The rest of their team is a joke that's why they ended up with the worst record in the NFL. And they'll need all the help they can get but they will still be YEARS away from competing. Fastest turnaround for the 32nd ranked team would be 2 years if they get everything perfectly right, that means hiring great management/coaching, plus draft Luck, assuming that Luck even PANS OUT!

Having Mallet means nothing.

Incorrect. Having Mallet means that the Pats have a developmental QB in the pipeline. Having Luck isn't gonna happen. Therefore having something is a LOT more meaningful than having NOTHING.

Having Mallet means nothing. If the Patriots could get Luck and think the same of him as most others seem to, they'd push Mallet out the door faster than you can say "successor".
