The Patriots offense ranks first in the NFL, averaging 36.6 points per game, and hasn't been held to fewer than 28 points through its first 5 games. But come this Sunday, the Pats will be going up against an elite defense, ranked No. 1 in total yards allowed per game. In holding the Redskins to 225 yards, the Jets defense climbed from 4th to 3rd to 2nd to 1st in the past four weeks and is now allowing 269.2 yards per game. And don't forget the scoring defense, which at 15.0 points allowed per game is No. 1 for the fifth straight week.

Jets are also

-Number 2 defense in passing yards per game (186.6)

-Number 2 defense in rushing yards per game (82.6)

-Number 3 defense in takeaways (15 total)

What are our chances of winning this game?

Here's some more context -

Pulling stats out my azz I would guess that the #1 O loses to the #1D 75% of time.

But that is also analysis in a vacuum. What is our d (16 I think)? What is their O ?? What is our ST vs their STs?

PS: with #12 involved in equation, that throws all the historical bs out the window

Chances of winning are excellent. As long as the oline does its job Brady will be effective as usual.

Sense some tension from some of the fans around here. Some of it is warranted with Ivory,Marshall and the defense but I'm not buying what the Jets are selling just yet.

It's a prove it kind of league and I'm going with the Qb that proves it year after year. Not some upstart team and it fans that thinks they are going to the Super Bowl every season for the last 46 years. Jeez, astronauts hadn't even walked on the moon yet the last time they won.

I expect a game from them but doubt they have the ability to play mistake free football for 60 minutes. Not so sure they can generate the pressure to throw Brady off either. I definitely look forward to the team facing this challenge. Got a feeling it's gonna be awhile before they get another one until they go back to the sewer.

Chargers are averaging more yards per game, yes, but they are mysteriously scoring 14 (FOURTEEN) less points per game than our own offense. They are incredibly inefficient and not even close to being on our level offensively.

No doubt, I was just pointing out a technicality.

The thing that gives me the most hope for this game is that the Pats have shown a tremendous ability this season to adjust their game plan on the fly during the game. They had to do that against both the Cowboys and the Colts, and still hung a 30-burger on both.

I don't like the matchups. Their good receivers vs. our secondary. Their good defensive line versus our rookie offensive line. On the other hand, our good everything else versus their not-so-good.

I'm not worried as much about their passing game because I think the Pats will hit Fitzgerald early and often enough for him to revert to gunslinger status and loft up prayers for the taking. Their running game concerns me more.

Wow, I get that the Jets have a pretty good team (presumably) this year and the Pats will need to play well just like any week, but I can't believe how scared everyone seems. It really sucks going into this game being the biggest favorites in Vegas of all the matchups this week. I just hope we can keep this within 50.

This will be a battle. Will be at the game, hope the Patriots win, but the Jets look like a legit team right now. Patriots will have their hands full, especially since they will be trotting out a back up OT.

This is the NFL, any team can win any game. That said, the Jets look really good, why is it so wrong to acknowledge that they look good and believe they will be a difficult challenge to overcome?

Pats are favored by 9 points by most odds makers. Seems kind of high to me fore all the reasons mentioned by the OP. Take it for what it's worth.

I have some more statistics -

The Jets are now 4-1 against five teams with a combined record of 10-24. Of those teams, only two (the 3-3 Colts and Eagles) are currently at .500, and the highest offense they've competed with (in terms of points per game) are the Eagles, who are currently ranked 10th in the league.

Only difference I see is Jets lost to Philly at Met Life and Pats beat Pittsburgh at Heinz.

SOS isn't that different......13-16 for Pats vs 12-17 for Jets.....

Should be another close game...Pats can win if they hang onto the ball as Jets are taking advantage of their Defense giving them the ball alot......

Halftime adjustments again will be key if Jets shut down Brady and the Offense early on......I can't see the Pats reaching 30 points. Running will be very tough and Revis will take away half the field. Hope Lafell is in shape to give it a go.....another game that will have both Jet and Patriot fans turning blue at the end....JMHO
