The depends on the interest I would collect for waiting the year. In draft value chart "dollars," even assuming the Saints draft late, the Pats collected at least 50% interest in the form of a 2nd round pick. At those terms, it's a no-brainer.

You also have to factor in the depreciation of the rest of your team though. One year later, half of your team could be FA and leave, retire, get old, etc. etc. It really depends on how much confidence you have in the draft pick.
 
If someone gave you a choice of collecting $1000 right now or $1000 next year, which would be more valuable to you? It's the same principle.

With pick #56 thrown in, it was like $1,000 today for $1,250 (partially) next year......and inflation ain't 25%.

(edit: Oops, I see Patchick already beat me to the inflation/interest point - - great minds think alike!)
