Now I wonder if we were the worst possible fit for him. Still no RT, drafted G's pretending to be T's, the rest of the OL in flux, no good WR, a disaster of a coaching experiment in year 2... he needs the team around him to be effective, he's not a guy that can elevate his team and I question how much of a leader he really is.
At the time, it looked like Belichick was actually planning to build around him. Then McDaniels left and everything went pear-shaped after that.

The two fat train-wrecks at the Tackles can and have messed things up all by themselves.
Brown is on the tail end of his career and shouldn't be counted on as the LT and RT has been a quagmire of injuries and lack of talent/coaching. I wanted an OT high in last year's draft and I still want one in this year's draft.

...I can't help but wonder if our lackluster FA signings are payback for all the talk of "BB isn't fun to play for" finally catching up to him. It's hard to sign good FAs if they don't want to play for you. I'm not in the fire BB camp, because I know bad coaching can be, but if I was then not having access to the best FAs is a huge hurdle to overcome. It's speculation on my part, which is all we do on here anyway.

Bill can stay to coach if he so chooses, mainly because Shula sucks.

But he must Not have Any say in Any personnel matters from this point forward... And neither should Al Groh's kid.

Pre 2021 draft everyone said that this team was a perfect fit for Mac with the way we play offense and he could hit the ground running. Looks like they couldn't have been more wrong.

There should be no question whatsoever about that one.

Because he isn't.

2021 was so radically different compared to now. Back then, he was the perfect fit. You're right, those days are gone.

He is what he is. He's a good player who can't be much better than that unless he has talent around him, which is true of most young quarterbacks who aren't great/elite. The great/elite guys can elevate, the good ones need great players to elevate them or help them get to the next level.
100%.

And odds are much higher that you'll find a QB like Mac Jones in the middle of the first round than a superstar.

Absolutely agree, he's not the right guy for their philosophy here. They need to keep drafting guys and sifting through players to find a guy who can do that. But unless we all want to grow old waiting for it, they're going to need to be incredibly critical and do what Arizona did and immediately part ways with guys after a season like they did with Rosen to speed up that process. If that's what they want/need (if they're not going to spend to bring any upper-echelon receiving talent in), giving a player 2-3 years is going to drag that all out.
Totally agree. I'd even say odds are also much higher that you'll find a JP Losman than a superstar in the first round. We could have traded up for Fields but there's no way anyone would have been ok with paying what it would have taken to get Fields production with Chicago so far.

I think in Rosen's case the Cardinals ran into Kyler Murray and just believed in him more than Rosen. Same might have happened here if Zappe was the real deal. Unfortunately the team found out he isn't so here we are with Mac.

Oh, 100% agree and I absolutely don't expect any in-season moves. And the guard positions I'm not overly concerned about because, as you said, injuries and such are the biggest issue there right now and there's at least light at the end of that tunnel.

But they need two new quality tackles. Anderson and Reiff were at best backups to begin with, and obviously it remains to be seen if the move with Sow is going to pan out albeit, it would be great if it did. And if they go to the well again with Brown, that would be extremely unwise.

Any moves for a receiver also wouldn't come until the offseason because I expect them to be sellers ahead of the trade deadline, especially since the odds are pretty good they'll be 1-7 or - should a miracle occur - 2-6. They don't have enough to warrant any additions midseason.
Beyond me why owenu is not right tackle. I guess injuries derailed him.

Yeah. I go back and forth on whether we should have picked a tackle instead of Gonzo. We needed an OT really badly, but a number of them had been picked. And Gonzo falling to us was great. But our line is worse for it.

As for WR, I don't see who was the available option in free agency last year who we should have gotten who would have been better. Maybe Zay Flowers instead of Gonzo in the draft. But that's the same issue.

Really, we need to be all in on Tee Higgins this offseason.
2nd and 3rd round should've been tackles

Rams picked Orlando Pace first overall in 97. 2 years later with a then unknown Kurt Warner the Greatest Show on Turf was born. That's not a coincidence, it all starts up front.

No problem if we went OT with our first pick and then QB if there is another Pace in next year's class. Probably isn't though.

would you take justin soldier fields over mac
Nope I don't like running QBs.

I believe Mac is broken but he had many 300 yards game before. In a better situation with a better team around them I would give Mac another shot if it came down to pick one of them.

Mac isn't a psycho like the greats, which means he requires a more well built team.

If you want these skill players to work out, you need an incredible offensive line. Top 5 at the least.

If you want this O-Line to workout, you need reallllyyyyy good skill position players who get open on a dime and who can get shifty and find their own lanes.

However, the reality is, we have neither.

Offensive line coaching has been garbage after Scar (both times).

If you wanna blame Bill, blame him for his absolute **** ability to find good coaches. Brady took the stress off of OC's, defensively we're always gonna be stout, but the fact of the matter is: Since Scar, we've had no one to figure out how the hell to build up our line. Most of our coaching staff doesn't really do that great the more they climb up in the league. The combo of Brady and Belichick (yes, both) made it hard for us to actually judge position coaches, etc.

Also, the offense lacks a clear leader as a player. Brady encouraged Bill to **** on him so he could always connect with the players. That's leader ****. That's when you know Brady knew what it took beyond just diagnosing defenses. He understood his role in establishing team spirit and how that "working class" mentality only works if the boss is ****ting on him just as much as a rookie.

Kinda went all over there, but the main point is this: this is a dysfunctionally built roster. It doesn't have a clue of what it wants to do or what it could be. It seems like Bill wants one thing, but he ain't getting it. It just isn't working. "Doing your job" is only an effective motto if the spirit and job is clearly defined, carefully carved out, and meticulously built around.

He didn't even need to roll right on the first play. He just needed to step up.

#15 was open right away to his left as well.
