Will be intersting to see Drake And JJ this week, they both were at the top of my QB list and had me torn going back and forth between the 2.
Maye wasn't good last night. No way around it. I think part of it hard to due with WRs, part with some shaky pass protection on series 1 and a large part on Maye. He only had 6 drop backs that went recorded. That is a very small sample size.

Offensive line looked solid in pass protection and has some definite dog in them on running plays. Loved seeing that. Starting Defense got some big breaks by a terrible showing from the Commanders back up offense. Front 7 looked okay. Not dominant but okay. Nice to see the guys we’ve heard about in reports show up in the game (Henderson & James). Both Maye and Dobbs looked rusty as hell. Sure hope that gets cleaned up real quick. Not getting WR’s involved just isnt gonna cut it. 1st preseason game though, so I wont ***** too much. What am I talking about? It was a blow out. All phases of the game showed up one way or another at some point in the game. How about Chism? Yeahhh buddy. Based on tonights playtime, I dont think Anfernee Jennings is gonna make it guys.
I suspect they'll keep Ponder over Jennings. The dude is the size of Hightower.

Campbell has 32 and 5/8th inch arms. 33 is still on the short side. Ideally you want 34 or longer. 33 is seen typically are the bare minimum you can have. I'm not saying he can't play OT... but maybe the arm length will matter on stunts and it is something which should be looked at.

You are saying he is only 1/3rd an inch short. That is 1/3rd an inch short from the absolute lowest length you'd typically accept. And 1 and 1/3rd inch short from what you're really looking for. Sports is a game of small advantages. separation in the NFL is often a matter of inches. Being a hair faster to create a window. Turning that corner 1/10th a second faster before the defender gets there.

The difference in being an outside or slot CB might just be those 1.375 inches taller or shorter. I am not hung up on it. But it is something to note. I am not saying he can't succeed as an OT. But this in particular may be an area to watch since handing off rushers really is one of the things longer arms make easier. I'm not here putting his head on a T-Rex or anything.

Bob, you do pretty good analysis on the whole, but you aren’t Dante Scarnecchia, and neither is anyone else here. If you want to say he whiffed on a block, or did a poor job on his run block fine, but anyone who starts getting into technical analysis of his blocking based on a minute bit of arm length is just making **** up and throwing it at the wall.

They measure arm length for a reason, do they not? I’ll defer to the experts.

It doesn’t necessarily mean it will doom him as a tackle but it wouldn’t be talked about if it was complete fiction as you are making out to be.
You "defer to the experts" but ignore Dante Scarnecchia?? If he's not an "expert" who is?

Everyone does realize that Simmons has 33 inch arms right?

Sub-optimal since 34 appears to be the "magic" number.

I guess we should've completely ignored the LT position

Missouri’s Armand Membou (33.5), Ohio State’s Josh Simmons (33), Oregon’s Josh Conerly (33.5), Minnesota’s Aireontae Ersery (33.125), Ohio State’s Donovan Jackson (33.5), and NC State’s Anthon Belton (33.875)

Thank you. That phony stuff is absolute crap. Before the draft Phil Perry had a report that indicated that.Campbell's arm length was 2/5 of an inch short of the "required" length. He had Scarnecchia on his podcast who offered the opinion that, while arm length isn't unimportant, it isn't close to being the main predictor for success. He also predicted that Campbell would be fine.as a LT. I'll take that opinion over any of the ones from the morons on Boston sports talk radio.

It's actually the second time in 7 years that Scarnecchia has gone off about arm length..

Nicely done, great post.

I get what you are saying, but I am sure there are several here that have an understanding of offensive line play and can point out "technique issues". Having said that we don't know what they are being taught and just because we would teach a certain thing doesn't mean Marrone is teaching it the same way.

Because someone isn't coaching in the NFL doesn't mean they are incapable of detecting details of position play.

Edit: I am a Maye supporter but I need more Maye and less Meh. He made some terrible decisions last year and that fumble was an extension that. We have also seen it reported that he has made bad decisions in the inter squad scrimmage and he said that the pick against the Skins he could have looked Wagner off but didn't. Just my rant

Pointing out a technique issue after reviewing tape is one thing. Blaming that technique issue on 1/3 or 2/5 of an inch from a TV broadcast and one view ain't happening. That's Huck's point.

There are starting OT's with 33" arms, including the Rams' Slater who may be the best tackle in the league (also Simmons from Ohio State who the Chiefs just drafted). Campbell has been measured as having 33" arms. This is so overblown on this board that it's beyond ridiculous. The play in question has nothing to do with arm length, wtf.

Marcus was the first Punt Returner. Looked like maybe he was a little jacked up after Hendersons return probably should have taken the fair catch but he still made the first guy miss. Didn't really go anywhere though.

Marcus was also playing corner on the outside and seemed to have mostly tight coverage. One good pass breakup on a deep pass that initially looked completed. And one somewhat deep pass did get completed over him. I think his size got exposed a tiny bit but he still played well outside.

He's not going anywhere don't be silly.
I only noticed Marcus twice. PR for no gain. Pass completed over him due to his small stature against taller receiver. You’re right, his lack of size was totally exposed. Did not see, or notice, his PBU.

What are you talking about?

Obv it was Campbells short arms that made him pickup the inside guy on the stunt, and allowed the outside crosser to come free

The Craptastic Four.
Bryant, Lowe, Jacobs, Wallace, Conley are who we have.

We shall contact you the day after cut-down day to see who you would choose to pick up on waivers

Vrabel has his choices to make

OK, then I completely misunderstood. Thank you for the clarification.

Sorry Huck for my confusion

. I like Treyvon to start, our Saquan Barkley! I like Jack Westover. Nobody said anything about this player. I've watched the starters play the preseason for about 4 times now, to catch up with all the new players. I guess the Jumbo packages are in. McDaniels M.O. Vrabel wants smashmouth football.I hope it works against Buffalo... Let's Go!

He had another 17 snaps and played pretty good.
