The host keeps mentioning some stat about our defensive backfield not stopping anyone. Keeps mentioning we have the slowest CBs in the NFL
Defense DVOA was 8th vs the rush and 23rd vs the pass entering the game.

Huh? Entering the game the Pats were 14th in defensive DVOA, 29th in Offensive DVOA and 32nd in ST DVOA for an overall 28th in team DVOA.
I ain't gonna lie I've heard of DVOA for like 10 years now or whatever it's been since someone made it up and I still have no clue what it is

It didn't feel like a 100yd rushing performance, but we had 96.
I'm still not sure what I think of the Zeke/Rham rotation. But, I guess it worked today.

What you are not answering is why Mac was good today after looking like the worst starter in the league for two weeks in a row.

Others are understandably attributing that to the much better OL play with Owenu at RT and Strange back at LG.

So what is your explanation about why Mac suddenly became so much better today?

Thanks. The time provided by the OL helped, for sure. But there have been slants and throws down the middle all year, and Mac did not execute those plays previously. Note that quick slants and middle of the field passes are easier than the sideline passes. Why did it change today? I am not good enough to answer that, but it is not only on the OL. Mac matured and held his nerve. Part of his positive outlook was the OL, Mac said so in his post game interview. But with football it is never one thing.

Was originally developed by Aaron Schatz at the now defunct Football Outsiders website. Aaron is now at FTN and is maintaining it

Our proprietary DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) system breaks down every single NFL play and compares a team's performance to a league-average baseline base on situation and opponent. It is explained further in this article.

Offense and Defense DVOA are adjusted based on strength of opponent (beginning after Week 4) and indoors/outdoors. DVOA considers all fumbles, kept or lost, as equal value. Performance in the fourth quarter of blowouts is downweighted. Special Teams DVOA is adjusted for type of stadium (warm, cold, dome, Denver) and week of season. Non-Adjusted Total VOA does not include these adjustments.

Positive numbers represent more points so Defense DVOA is better when it is NEGATIVE.

  • ESTIMATED WINS uses a statistic known as "Forest Index" that emphasizes consistency as well as DVOA in the most important specific situations: red zone defense, first quarter offense, and performance in the second half when the score is close. It then projects a number of wins adjusted to a league-average schedule and a league-average rate of recovering fumbles. Teams that have had a bye week are listed with estimated wins as if they have not had a bye week yet (until all teams have had their bye week).
  • WEIGHTED DVOA is adjusted so that earlier games in the season become gradually less important. It better reflects how the team was playing at the end of the season.
  • PAST SCHEDULE lists average DVOA of opponents played this season, ranked from hardest schedule (No. 1, most positive) to easiest schedule (No. 32, most negative). FUTURE SCHEDULE is based on current DVOA, without considering preseason projections.
  • PYTHAGOREAN WINS represent a projection of the team's expected wins based solely on points scored and allowed. This stat is not displayed for the current season.
  • VARIANCE measures the statistical variance of the team's weekly DVOA performance. Teams are ranked from most consistent (No. 1, lowest variance) to least consistent (No. 32, highest variance).
Pre-2023 DVOA may be different from DVOA posted elsewhere on the Internet because of improvements made to the system before the 2023 season.

Opponent adjustments are not included until after Week 4, then gradually increase each week until reaching full strength after Week 10.

Tom was the greatest, but he did give the ball away, he used to be around 12 interceptions a year but cut that down in later years. He also had that awful playoff game against turning the ball over, I think the team turned it over 5 times that game, and Tom had 3-4 interception including a pick six when they were close to scoring.
Over his career, his interception rate or lost fumbles are far superior to other “ like” qbs. I definitely remember him trying to force the ball to Randy in triple coverage many times,

Belichick mentioned how windy it was in the PC, so I take back my criticism about going downfield. But it's a huge handicap for the team on a day like this; obviously Josh Allen was throwing far downfield, and doing it all game.

While everyone will be deservedly so speaking about Mac

This defense to be performing as well as this without Judon and Gonzo, and Marcus Jones is very good. JC has been very decent, although he will get flagged if the officials want to in almost every play

Dugger is playing out of his Max contract. Today his tackling was bad (as was the rest of the team), but overall Jabrill Peppers is outperforming him this season. Good for us If BB has learned from the Meyers/Juju thing.

Barmore is elevating his play, but can he stay consistently good? In any case, I felt like the DL won a lot today, same as last week. Some runs were Cook magic and putrid tackling

Wise is quietly becoming quite a player too. He might not be flashy, but he is always good, occasionally great. Gotta keep these guys around
Dugger will not make more than 6 million AAV.

It looked like BOB made sure Mac made those the first reads today and to throw it if it was there.

I like this version of Mac where he gets rid of the ball quickly and not try to do too much.

Broncos with a chance to get a wild card at 2-5. Amazing.

Agreed. Peppers reminds me so much of Rodney he's a leader on/off the field . Guys a Missile. He strikes fear in TEs coming across the middle. I can see him re- uped on a 2 yr. Deal. Barmore is a force he's the type of player that we need to collapse the pocket and make it hard for QB to step up. He's seemingly playing more up on the line instead of a down lineman.. he's more like interior rusher. On propelling them I was saying that " could".. Miami isn't a fluke either that offense is the real deal..
Rodney was my hands down fav patriot. Couldn’t image a better team mate

If we’re still into 2024 draft order some not so bad results after our win. Bears, Giants and Donkeys all won as well.

Now that the high from the game has worn off, looking at back objectively , I still think at a minimum this should get the team some of their confidence back and they aren't getting blown out and losing to ****heads like the Saints.

Now can they repeat today's results against Dolphins, Chiefs, etc? I guess we will find out as soon as early next week when they play the Dolphis.

I would love for them to go .500 at the bye, then come back and make a run for it.

I’m so petty I never forgave Rodney for telling Tom to “take off the skirt” before looking to his new media colleagues for an attaboy like, “am I doing this right?”

I like them both alot, they just rarely have alot to work with. This game was alot like the OL performance vs philly, great job pass blocking but not much for the run game.

Actually the overall offense performance was almost the same too , just in that game we didn’t get the td at the end.

Peppers signed a 2 year deal this offseason, so he’ll be on the team for 2024.
