Marcus is sticky and makes WRs appear covered. A QB that knows the matchup will just float it whenever there isn't a safety helping out, as Rodgers did with Wilson several times. So it goes.

Still a good player to have on defense of course. He just needs a couple of slightly taller serviceable CBs with him out there, so he's not forced into bad matchups or roles that don't suit him. A solid CB2 is an offseason priority.
The remaining QBs the pairing of Gonzo+Jones have to face:

- Mason Rudolph
- Caleb Williams
- Matthew Stafford
- Tua Tagovailoa
- Anthony Richardson
- Kyler Murray
- Josh Allen
- Justin Herbert

Not a good matchup. Undersized. I’d like to see how Bolden does, or even Dial. Dial was getting some work on STs iirc.
Agree. I thinking Marcus has great awareness, speed and ball skills.. but he's not a outside CB.. we have enough of a sample size now. Good to see gonzo return to his all-pro form yesterday. Bolden yes , I also am high on dial.. he reminds me of a younger Jon jones.. he's fiesty, he's physical.

I’m not sure his development will benefit by playing with a high school level football team. For one thing, he needs to be running less not more, but playing with WRs who can’t separate or catch, and behind a serve of an OL, he will be learning he should run more not less. He has already experienced the speed of the pro game and showed it’s no problem for him. Same about reading defenses. I’d rather see Milton get some development time if it comes to that. But I’m not a fan of the sell everything approach, I’d really rather see if any of the young prospects can develop the Boutte seems to be. Thornton is a lost cause, and I’d give Osborn what he wants, but otherwise I’d insist on selling high and I doubt there would be buyers for that.
They didn't put Maye out there just to play him for 2 games and pull him for the rest of the year at the first sign of an injury dude lol. What the hell would be the point of that?

Also not sure why you think the Pats are going to "sell everything". Just because people on forums/Twitter say they should doesn't mean they're going to. I'm sure they're listening to offers but if anything, Wolf might sell some veterans - I doubt he's going to part with young guys who they are trying to develop.

Very interesting... I'd like dial to get some time on the outside.

Say guys, this organization has it ass backwards. It's all about competition like BB has preached his entire coahing career as it produces improvement. This staff or team gave Jacoby the job for the year as he didn't compete for it and he played like he just didn"t want to screw it up. He never competed until yesterday. He played well. His passes had zip and accuracy because he knew he was competing.
They need more competition, unfortunately it's tough to make chicken saiad out of chicken ****.
Thanks Jonathan and daddy for providing the fans with this bargain basement staff. We are going to have a high draft pickand they have no idea of how to use it......

I’d posit that the Pats may be able to pass Miami too. Tua’s health seems like it’s perpetually one hit away from disaster (and probably doesn’t even need to be a bad hit at this point) and their cap situation was also similarly set up like NYJ’s to target a “window” which is quickly closing shut. If the Pats can build on this and get their acts together from a coaching standpoint, draft and develop well next year and make some key free agent acquisitions, they will be able to grab the 2 spot in the division easily and maybe challenge the Bills. Heck, at this point they might be able to finish 2nd in the east THIS year considering they have an equal win count with Miami and the Jete right now.

If Maye is a legit QB then all we need is the right HC and we'll have the two most important components to fill for a good team. Miami has the HC. McDaniel has proven that if he has a real QB he can scheme and win games. The Jets are in no man's land. Their overall roster is great, but their QB is a shell of himself and their HC is even more clueless than Mayo. They've been looking for a QB and HC for what seems like 2 decades. Maye if off to a nice start and I'm hopeful but it's only been 3 games.

The thing with that is: If we take a WR 1st because of "value", by the time our next available pick comes up all the top LTs will probably be gone. And the need for a stud LT is more dire, IMO. The ideal scenario would be to trade down a bit and still get a stud LT, even if you're taking pennies on the dollar in the draft trade. But as many have said, it's a bad year to be bad. There a few players teams will just have to have so there won't be as robust a trade market as years past.

I'd rather get a stud LT. Even if we have to overdraft him by 5 or 10 slots. Priority #1 is protecting the franchise QB.
What if stud LT is worse than Lowe ?

Perhaps the biggest difference between this game and the last Jets game was that this time Rodgers couldn't run. He's apparently dealing with a knee and a hamstring. But the Jets roster has had two significant upgrades in the form of a top WR and edge rusher. And their coaching has clearly gone downhill - lots of self-inflicted wounds. Clearly they are screwed over the next few years - can't see Rodgers being back for another year.

The Pats game plan was also significantly better this time. Our coaches are all on the inexperienced side, so expect some glitches in year one.
Next year with a top draft pick and lots of cap space we should be able to come up with some of the missing pieces on the receiving core, the OL and the secondary. I assume Uche is being traded - he came cheap and we will get some draft capital to go with what we got for Judon.

Vederian Lowe pass blocking efficiency (sacks, hits & hurries allowed by snaps):

2023: 92.1 (82nd/85th)
2024: 95.9 (56th/79th)
last three games: 97.5 (24th/70th)

Outside of Maye, Lowe is the player fans should be rooting the most for. This draft has two star WRs at the top in Hunter & McMillan while there is currently no OT worth a top 10 pick. Lowe continuing to improve would allow them to take an OT later & go BPA in round 1.

Marcus Jones looking like a worse version of Ellis Hobbs yesterday. Bro needs to stick to kick/punt returns.

It's simpler than that. Jacoby played a good game yesterday, but overall isn't very good. I wouldn't be surprised if he was less risk averse yesterday simply because he knew that nothing he did mattered. If he won, Maye is coming back as the starter when healthy. If he stunk it up, Maye is still getting the starting job back. He played in a no lose situation and got to have fun with it and not play the "steady ship" dude he is usually asked to be.

The truth is, Maye not starting was a decision based on what they felt was best for development. And as much as we love to pretend Bill does this, Brady literally didn't get to start at the beginning of 2001 for reasons other than him being the best QB on the team, which Bill himself admits to. There's other considerations with younger guys.

It was called down from the league. They wanted to do further evaluation,” Mayo said on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.” “When I went in there at halftime, (Maye) wanted to go back out there, but obviously he didn’t pass the test.

“And not going to get too far into that, but, at the same time, he went out there and threw a couple good balls after, I guess, supposedly put him in the protocol.”

Mayo said he didn’t see any warning signs from Maye after taking the helmet-to-helmet hit.

“I did not. I was surprised when (head trainer Jim) Whalen told me he had to go to the medical tent because he threw a couple of good balls afterward, and I thought he was still pretty sharp in those regards,” Mayo said. “But obviously, it’s above my pay grade as far as pulling him out of the game and putting him in the protocol.

Hmm, they got a call from Jete headquarters in nyc to sit maye, and give goodells jete another advantage

First Hobbs was better than people give him credit for. The plaxico score really killed everyone's opinion on him.

He's not quite there yet but I think Marcus will be better than Hobbs and a quality starter for several years.

Agreed. But I do think it suggests we should teach him that he'll last a lot longer if he stays more of a pocket passer.

If he did that, the Pats would not have scored their first TD.

The fact is Maye had a hit on the head and was pretty clearly groggy for some seconds after the hit. So it is absolutely the right thing for the NFL observers to ask for an evaluation by the independent neurologist, which Maye apparently failed. So enough with the conspiracy theories. Whether we won or lost this game has no impact on our next five years, while you only have to look at Tua to see what multiple concussions can do. The issue is another hit while even mildly concussed can be very damaging.

Didn't Hobbs have to have his hamstring surgically repaired after that Super Bowl?

It has nothing to do with the Plaxico TD. Hobbs was routinely exposed when he manned up without safety help. He had an uncanny ability to either somehow fall down right before competing for a 50/50 ball or the opposing player would snatch the ball away from him then throwing his hands up in the air like some unforeseen circumstance caused that to happen. It went unnoticed because of how good the team was overall.

Malcolm Butler did that a lot as well.

Wilson had more receiving yards then our entire group yesterday. What is your take on Lil Marcus being put on bigger WRs?
You are heightest

You do realize the average height of NFL cornerbacks is 5'11"

Exactly. Of course Maye wanted to go back in. He’s a competitor. Of course Mayo wanted him back in. He’s a coach trying to win the game. That’s why they have the independent neurotrauma specialist to protect the players’ long term health interests. We don’t need any more former players ending up like Duerson and Seau.
