If I ever thought that my team was losing games to move up higher in the draft I'd go ballistic. That's a losing mentality and one that belongs to the Indiots of the world.
LOL this team doesn't need nefarious instructions from the higher ups to lose. They find ways to lose all on their own!

If Mac had 20 TD and 7 pick this season, this team would be in a much better spot.
If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. What's your point? Mac Jones is as close to getting those stats this season as he is to becoming the Pope.

As down as I am on Mac, I would rather see Year 3 Mac get one last shot with BoB. I want no part of Jimmy G. Injury prone combined with average QB'ing.

I would much rather see Zappe get a real shot.

But NO to Jimmy G.
Certainly he is injury prone, but if he gets injured then you’re playing Zappe. I am at the point where I would rather take the “sure thing” with Jimmy even if the ceiling isn’t super high, rather than just hope that Mac turns it around in year 3. I think the team will probably retain Mac but we know Bill covets Garoppolo so who knows. He likely won’t get another chance at him as a free agent in his prime.

Fair point. I prefer to refer to Jimmy G as a "known commodity" than a "sure thing" because to me, "sure thing" implies greatness. He has been surrounded by a lot of talent in SF, and has mostly looked average.

I would rather give Mac one last chance with a real OC to see if he can eclipse Jimmy G's level.

As for Zappe. I don't want him to get his chance when Jimmy gets hurt. I'd like to see him get a real chance as the guy from TC on. It's not going to happen though.

So give me Mac with BoB. It may be a wasted year, but at least we will 100% know.

The issue is that it took until a very cold (hard ball) and very windy (ball probably moving like a knuckle ball) day for Mac to finally hit TT in the hands on a deep throw (unless I'm forgetting a previous attempt). I still put most of the blame (randomly picking 90% but that's harsh) on Thornton. Given the conditions, I thought it was a great throw. A perfect throw (rare) is right in the hands, in full stride, with no acceleration changes. A great throw is one with slight acceleration changes. This would've been a "good" throw if the conditions were good, but as such, imho, it was a great throw.

This would've been a 57 air yard pass if completed, which would've been Mac's longest by far as a Patriot (52.2yds). Thornton did have to decelerate rapidly (imho but I'm biased as a slow sprinter/runner), course correct to move left, and dive. If he didn't choose "poorly" (tough in those conditions), then the catch could've been "in stride." The problem with Mac to Thornton (which I'll keep saying until they figure it out), is that Mac is releasing the ball too late. This is even with TT's strangely really slow time to start horizontal movement (which I figured out and will analyze in more detail in the TT thread) - he's that fast. It would've been late even to Agholor, who's very fast in his own right. If it's a single high safety with both Agholor and Thornton in there, I say just look off the safety and chuck it up with release at 2.5s with decision to throw at low 2s. If Thornton cleans up his start (and yes yes catch the ball blah blah) - another .15s - then Mac can decide/commit to throw at around 2s with release at 2.35s for a 57 air yard throw.

2.93s snap to release
3.07s release to TT

I don't think velocity is an issue if he can get the timing right. Not sure one wants to put a throw like this on a rope anyway. As analyzed previously, even Josh Allen will sometimes have throws of this length take that much time (so same velocity) to get the right arc on it.

If a neanderthal like me can figure it out, a f*cking rocket scientist shouldn't have a problem. FFS.
Hitting someone in the hands in that context is a misnomer, if the reciever has to make a significant adjustment to the ball, you didn't "hit them in the hands". You threw a ball in their general vicinity. TT needs to get his college hands back, where he seemed to catch everything thrown his way.

Regardless, TT should have reeled that in. It was his ball to catch. But no, the throw wasn't great.it was off target.

First, what does anything you wrote have to do with the Thornton play?

Second, it wasn't Mac Jones who decided to start the first two series of plays with ultra conservative and ultra predictable series of drives being run, run, pass each drive.

Third, Mac Jones is the likely starter in 2023. He showed in the second half yesterday that he isn't the problem that you Mac Haters want to make him and Matt Patricia is the #1 problem with the offense and #2 isn't remotely close to Patricia.
I'm going to call him 3 and out from now on

Are guys I have my eyes on in mid first early second range.

But I will be learning everything I can about these kids like it’s my job.

A hard season to watch for a variety of reasons. The offence has been an embarrassment and is simply not a pro level. Not in 2022. 1968, maybe!

Patricia has been an unmitigated disaster and I just hope to hell that BB can put his ego aside and do what is right for this team. And what is right is getting rid of most if not all the offensive coaches associated with the 2022 trainwreck.

I have no idea what Mac can be but we’ve certainly seen his warts this year. He has some talent but is what’s between his ears enough to make up for a lack of arm strength and athleticism? At this point I have no idea.

The O line has been a medical waste fire all year and you could argue that it started when Wynn’s option was picked up. His lack of health combined with poor situational awareness (asinine penalties) made picking up the 5th year highly questionable. But what choice did they have, given how bare the cupboard was?

The coaching this year has been as bad as the O line play, maybe even worse and the end result, among other things, is a completely wasted year of Mac’s development. We were all hoping for a jump in Mac’s play from year 1 to 2 and what we’ve seen instead is a complete regression that I don’t think anyone expected. It’s been as ugly as it was unnecessary.

I’ve always been a firm supporter of our coach, but the 2022 season has to rest squarely at his feet. Putting an inexperienced OC in place for Mac’s second year while completely implementing a new offensive system, has been a total disaster. There is no other way to put it. And to also give the OC the extra duties of O line coaching, has simply added to the bad level of football that this group has produced all season. Belichick’s Patricia “experiment” has been an abject failure and there is no other way to put it. And giving Mac Joe Judge after he did such a great job with Danny Dimes, (severe sarcasm for the dimwitted on this board) was simply adding insult to injury. This is why I can’t blame Mac too much, even though there is much to his game that I don’t like.

We are here now largely because of bad decisions made by our head coach/GM.

I would be very excited to see a new QB drafted early to compete with Mac and Bailey. I don't think any of those guys should feel comfortable with their jobs and I'm not convinced either one can be the guy. Let's take a swing with some new blood in the draft!

I understand some fans wanting to go back to JimmyG but he's a retread. We know he's injury prone and he'll play like 60% of the snaps then go down with a big injury. What good was wasting all that cap space for then?

Don't know Tune but Duggan is a guy for sure who doesn't lose his cool in the face of a rush if his first read isn't there.

Scotty Washington looks very fast for a TE. It looks like he didn't lose much speed from his supposed 4.41 40 when he was 30lbs lighter. I'm intrigued. Don't know how to analyze blocking, so I wonder how that's going.

Yeah I’m using “sure thing” and “known commodity” interchangeably here so we are on the same page. I think he’s slightly above average but I’m okay with that for a few years.

They activated Washington because they like him. I usually follow players but I know nothing about him.

I like him because I knew he was fast, but his game speed is pretty darn fast just from what I saw in the Bengals game. I mean he was aaallll the way down there for the jump ball tap TD to Jakobi. I mentally gave up on him because I figured he wasn't going to get past Henry and Jonnu, skill wise and sunk costs wise.

All I have to say to that is what I said earlier in the season: FREE Kendrick Bourne!

Matt Patricia finally pulled his head out of his ass long enough to insert KB84 into the game and look what that gets you: 6 catches 100 yards 1 TD.

I want to see Bourne starting 90% of the snaps from here on out. You're already sabotaging Mac Jones with the coaching, how about at least allowing his best weapons onto the field?

Article for thought: Has Kendrick Bourne been mismanaged this season?

I'm certainly no expert and an admitted Mac apologist, also haven't slogged through 30 pages of of Mac sucks, but I can't put this one on Mac.
I see a team that is mediocre across the board on offense.

1. The receiving corps has no one that can get separation. Mac hit Bourne in triple coverage. Most of the time the receiver is trailing the coverage.
If Jakobi Meyers is your best option, you're in trouble. Did Brady make Eidleman, Gronkowski, Moss, Faulk, White, Branch, or visa versa?
As the announcer said yesterday, this receiving corps isn't scaring anyone. There is no "go to" guy.
Unfortunately, the tight ends never panned out (especially at such a high cost).

2. The O-line gets him 2 seconds max (when he's not getting blasted or scrambling for his life). He's been getting blasted for 2 seasons now. They have a knack for getting an off sides penalty at just the right time to kill a drive.

3. Coaching.
My main embarrassment for this current team is how sloppy they play in all 3 phases of the game. Even yesterday on D you had unsportsmanlike conduct and roughing the passer that extended drives. Discipline and intelligence has always been a hallmark of BB coached teams.
This team is like "free range knuckleheads"... taking turns taking a bad penalty or turnover at exactly the wrong time.
Why isn't Thornton running a fly to clear out the safety every other down? He's young and can fly...wear him out.

This game was closer than the score showed. Patricia was bad in the 1st half but had a HOF game plan in the 2nd.
