I HATE playing the "what if" game and hindsight with the draft, but Sherman instead of Dowling and this team is 6-0. 32 teams passed on that stud 4 times over though.

I didn't know Sherman is so talented that he can play BOTH left and right corner at the same time....even with Sherman the other guy would be toast.

Even if you have an awesome secondary but can't disguise well, they WILL get burned. Our secondary is not nearly close to being awesome but it doesnt help that we can't disguise for ****. After years of drafting first and second rounder DB's and NONE of them produced since Crenel and Mangini left, i will be willing to wager that it is more defensive play calling and not talent.

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

Twenty-three points against the best defense in the league should be enough, as long as you don't keep giving up chunks of yards on jump balls.

I agree that they need to get better at closing the deal, but they wouldn't be in that spot if they didn't give up so many big plays.

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

Why do all of these trolls IGNORE the fact that we just faced the #1 defense in the NFL??????

It's mind-boggling!

Because its the same story now for the last 8 years. Brady can't play against good defenses.

You are completely correct Scott......Pats will be in a dogfight just to try to win the division. Maybe some miracles will occur and they will start to turn some things around.....but if not, this is NOT A GOOD team....they will go nowhere....and yes, I predict they lose to the Jests next weekend. Way too much pressure on them right now...the mediots will be all over them all week....I think the writing was on the wall with this team when they couldn't "Close" the deal against AZ or Balt.....just not a mentally tough team when it counts. And.....Brady is no longer the Ice water in Veins Clutch QB he was in 01-04........that guy aint here anymore.....
Poor wussy play calling with a 2 score lead (no killer instinct) and a terrible defense are a recipe for disaster. To think, that Pats schedule was the weakest in the NFL, no excuses, and totally disgraceful. This team CAN NOT get points off of turnovers and CAN NOT put away teams when they have a decent lead. At this point, I'd be orgasmic with a 10-6 record and a division championship. Not complaining, it is was it is, our Pats blew their load last season, probably Brady's and BB's last sniff at a Lombardi trophy. Unfortunately for Brady, though the D has potential, they will not be great until Brady is 40.

The team as a whole, has a lot of talent...

Problem is,there is absolutely no talent once you pass the first two front rows of defense.

This is the worst secondary in all of football...and I don't think it's close.

The team isn't garbage......however it's secondary is TOTAL crap

There is not ONE player in this secondary who would start on ANY other team...not ONE

These sorts of comments are what make Pats fans the laughing stock of the league. It goes to show how inept we are and how we couldn't judge talent if we had it laid out in front of us.

Both McCourty and Wilson and Gregory could start on other teams. Chung might even be able to start on another team as well. A team like the Redskins. The issue isn't that the secondary is crap. The issue is that the entire defense isn't working in sync yet. Players aren't doing their jobs. And we have guys new to the team who are learning what their job entails. Which also entails learning the jobs of the other players in the secondary. Something that way too many of you seem to have forgotten.

If there is any OC in the league that will not pass on this defense 100% of the time, he should have his head examined.

I hate reading the forums after a loss (especially one like there where we blew multiple opportunities). Winning cures alot of ails and helps cover up the warts.

The reality, is there's only a handful of plays that separate the 2.

This team isn't winning close games and that's concerning. Offense sputters in the fourth quater, Tom Brady starts forcing balls. On the final drive, The pocket is collapsing as soon as Brady receives the snap. Poor clock management, unacceptable and frankly insulting secondary play for most of the game. Don't know what to say other than this team right now is destined to go one and done to any team that likes to take shots down the field and can cover for 3 seconds.

If the Pats win the division...which they should, this is a Wild Card team with a home game.

If you wanted a bye week,I don't see that happening.

The Ravens are already a near insurmountable 3 games ahead of NE and just about guaranteed a bye week....and it's only October

IMO The only chance for a bye is no more losses and a win against Houston

But this division is far from being a runaway,it may come down to the final week

A win against houston? Surely you must be joking!? Well I guess anything can happen on any given Sunday....but this team can't even sniff Houston's Jock strap right now.....

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

Our offense put up 400+ yards and 24 points on the best defense in the NFL. That's good, but not perfect, which is the problem because our offense has to be perfect for us to win. That's why I blame the defense. Wilson (and even Sidney Rice?[or was he the one who almost caught it]!!!!!!!!!) threw it up and got like 10 catches of 40+ yards. That is unacceptable.

The game had nothing to do with the officials. Just stop, really.

I know it's blasphemy to talk ill of Belichick in New England, and rightfully so, but the play calling was horrible.

We let 24 seconds go to total waste at the end of the 1st half after our DEFENSE came up big for us and gave us a chance to really open the game up. We didn't even get a field goal out of it. That is COACHING and bad decision making.

In the second half, on both drives that ended in an interception, we were marching on the Hawks defense. Marching, marching, marching, wearing them down and cutting through them like butter with short gains. Instead of sticking with it we decide to go for knock out blows that become turn overs.

That game should of been 37-10 in the 4th against the best defense in the league. It should of sent a huge message to the rest of the league that the Patriots will not be stopped.

Instead we leave Seattle with a big fat loss.

Just awful situational football today. BB needs to get in these guys butts this week.

Well, The problem is that that the definition of failure for most of the fans on this board is anyone who isn't an all-pro 30 seconds after they are drafted. People on here are so quick to anoint someone a failure even though they are learning the defense (Ebner, Wilson, Dowling, Gregory). Most people on this board don't know what patience is. They don't know that things take time. They expect instant results.

Oh, and way too many people aren't willing to give credit where credit is due. Such as when the opposing players make an outstanding play.

What about these guys? They are conspicuously absent from your list

2010 1 1 27 27 Devin McCourty DB Rutgers
2009 1 2 2 34 Patrick Chung DB Oregon
* 3 2 9 41 Darius Butler DB Connecticut
2008 2 2 31 62 Terrence Wheatley DB Colorado
2007 1 1 24 24 Brandon Meriweather DB Miami (FL)

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

Because its the same story now for the last 8 years. Brady can't play against good defenses.

395 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, in the rain. What a scrub. The 2nd best qb in the league put up 12 points on the same defense, 223 yards and no TD's.

Attack your opponents weaknesses. That's what the Patriots should do. They got 400 yards in the first 3 qtrs.

Then they went to the run.

And they lost.

I didn't know the RB's threw INT's.
And you missed the point anyways. I didn't say to stop passing but at make it LOOK like you might run.

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

Number 1 offense vs Number 1 defense....guys, chill, we lost a close game against a great defensive team AT HOME by 1 point.

Holy.

We have a quality football team...and a competitive team, Number 1 offense.

Back to work tomorrow vs the jets, big game at home.

We will be back...let's make the corrections that need to be made and move on.

They'll show up vs the Jets.

The loss is okay, but the way they lost is not okay. When we want a first down, the other defense steps up and stops us (again and again the last two games). Our defense? They could barely protect a 4 score lead last week and squander a 2 score lead this week. The last TD by Seattle convinced me that coaching deficiency may have quite a bit to do with our defensive problems. On that play, Seattle sends out two receivers and we play zone? The DB's are standing around having passed on the receivers to the safeties, who then proceed to easily beat them. Dont tell me that they thought a running play was coming.
Talking about coaching deficiencies: Hey McDaniels - what's with a game plan calling for 58 throws by Brady?

Cmon brah. Two of those guys are pro bowlers.

It's mind-boggling!

#1 or not the Patriots SHOULD have scored over 30 but they left points on the field with dumb clock management, poor playcalling, intentional grounding and interceptions.
