Gronk did look really messed up after that play. After he got hit he fell completely limp. When they were talking to him he looked completely glazed over like he wasnt understanding anything. Rather be safe than let him keep playing and he hurts himself more. I'm sure he'll be back out after halftime.
I wonder if they wanted to threaten deep enough to open things up? Maybe they think that they can get better matchups now that they've shown they are willing to throw deep.
It was a calculated gamble that was also not executed properly (obviously underthrown) that at worse would be equivalent to that of touch back from a punt.
