Maybe they don’t like the tackle draft class.

Whats to like? Ive been saying it for a year. Thats why FA was so underwhelming. At least they didnt panic & wasted the top of the draft as well..

Let's sum up the 4th round:

C Jake Andrews - Projected 7th round
K Chad Ryland - Projected UDFA
G Sidy Sow - Projected UDFA

Reach, Reach, Reach.

Wow, talk about wasting our entire 4th round!
Brugler's very detailed draft guide has

C Jake Andrews - Projected 7th round
K Chad Ryland - Projected 6-7
G Sidy Sow - Projected 4-5
Since Moody was projected 4-5 and went in 3RD it moves need for Ryland up a round or 2 or risk losing one of the 2 kickers worth drafting. So you can only really argue one of the picks, Andrews, is a reach.
Also consider 4th round consistent starter of % drafted and Offensive Line is high on that list so good odds drafting lineman in the 4th
4th Round - DL (37%) TE (33%) OL (29%) LB (16%) WR(12%) DB (11%) RB (11%) QB (8%)

Tackle was more important. But I never said the Pats didn't need OLine help. I just questioned why would they avoid tackle.
fair enough

We are looking at the 4th round when we had the choice of OG, C and OT.

Isn't it clear that the answer to you question is that the players chosen were judge much more likely to better than we had by the staff?

We have starters at C and OG who might be in the last year. I think that the team judges that they like Strange and Hines. So, we need at least 2 more OL's and probably another on the Practice Squad. I suspect that the team is very happy with their 4th round choices.

After the 4th, it is all shots in the dark, other than drafting a punter, quarterback, and running back.

Like who?
Look at the roster. They had people who dressed for games and they had people on the practice squad. The entire line sucked. Difference is that left tackle for a QB is probably more important than a top wideout, yet this team doesn't care about that. They are a Trent Brown injury away from Mac getting sacked 50 times and or getting hurt again.

Brugler's guide is one that I read. But he's only one source. It was mentioned that there were sources that had him as a 4th. It was also mentioned that several teams were questioned and had Andrews as a 5th rounder. Time will tell.

Agree to disagree then. They need someone. Could have been jones could have been freeman or whoever. Its great they have 7 or 8 interior options but none of them can really play tackle. Did this with Wynn for years and we saw the results.
Everyone passed on Jones for a reason. He can't move. Freeland got thrown around like a ragdoll at the Senior Bowl by mediocre players who aren't even getting drafted.

I'm literally asking you who and you're not answering.

The answer is Ferentz and Murray and the guy we cut the one week after he started. We got him off the street.

I can't believe your answers.

We had no one back there last year, we suffered. So this year we answer by drafting 3 guys to back up the position.

So according to Brugler's, the only guy who is even in the neighborhood of the 4th round is Sidy Sow? I've seen him ranked as UDFA by other draft guides, but let's give it to Brugler's and assume Sow went where he should, that doesn't excuse the other reaches.

If you wanted fringe backup players why not just take Andrews and Ryland in the 6th when we have THREE 6th round picks?

This doesn't negate the assertion that we made a lot of REACHES in round 4 and essentially went for backup quality players rather than go for players that could be potential contributors to the 1st team or regular rotation players.

A kicker in the 4th round, just feels really hard to defend, especially since the Patriots actually spent two picks to move up for him. If he gets cut in training camp then this pick just becomes silly indefensible.

And I don't see how anyone can defend Andrews pick who has no business being taken in round 4.

And...they still would have been an upgrade over what they had. Jones is a project that has the tools but people question his heart. Freeland can put on weight and refine technique. Sow was a combine riser. I'm not even mad they drafted guards, I'm annoyed they passed on tackle completely.

5 picks away from our first 6th rounder.

And they neglected tackle, the most important position for your QB. So yeah its great that the interior was taken care of but the QB consistently gets destroyed and doesn't really have a chance here then you're in this position next year drafting Mac's replacement. Maybe I'm not answering since I've already said it was a revolving door of suck.

People have forgotten that the Pats have regularly carried 9-10 OL on the 53 during the season. It was very rare to have only 8.
They once only had Larry Izzo as a dedicated STer. Now, they have Slater, Schooler, Board and Davis.

Sure its shots in the dark. The line completely sucked but at the same time they do have to give Strange a shot this year since they did blow a 1st on him. Tackle though...

With 4 picks this round I’m emptying the coffers…

WR - Bryce Ford-Wheaton, Andrei Iosivas, Trey Palmer

TE - Zack Kuntz, Blake Whiteheart,

QB - Tyson Bagent,

CB/S - Corey Trice, Christian Izien, Jarrick Bernard-Converse, Kaleb Hayes, James Campbell, Ty Okada, Jerrick Reed, Morgan Vest

OT- John Ojukwu, Jake Witt, Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu

We still need a punter…

If there is a guy named Mafu out there it would be great to take him for the confusion factor.

Great 6th round value.

I've been hoping the Pats could trade 2 of their 6ths to move up into the 5th again..
And U was hoping they move 2 of their 4th rounders for a #3 pick last night. Looks like neither of us got our preference. Good Zlord, the Bruins had better win tomorrow night!

What makes you think that Mapu would have been around in the 4th?

You do know that Dawand Jones has major weight and attitude issues. He refused to weigh in at his Pro-Day. They've already got ONE OT with those issues.
Why take the Punter from Mich State in the 5th when he's still there right now?

How do you know what he's leaving on the table? Are you Ms. Cleo and can see the future and know how these guy's careers will go?
lol maybe I am........just wondering man, just wondering, I agree tho Mac needs top protection and never see anything like last year again...

I don't like our draft to this point.

However having said that, other than Jake Andrews, I think they're all good players. I especially like Mafi as a player. I just don't think they were necessarily the right players at the right time, at least in my opinion.

Some of the hysterics on here are a little over the top.
