Oh come on, none of us like them but lets be real about what we saw tonight.

I am. And for openers that requires I evaluate their performance in the context of what they were competing against...which wasn't very good.

Ok time for some honesty here. Mark Sanchez threw an horrific ball for the interception but apart from that he looked really good to me.

The Jets firsts were impressive.

Sorgi was very impressive for the Giants and Cruz well what can one say, he really looked fantastic. He has to play with the firsts though before anybody can really say how good he is and I suppose the same applies to Sorgi but he did look really, really good.

I didn't think Sanchez looked particularly good until the Giants pulled their first defense. He was uneven against the Giants' first, so really good passes and some really awful passes. Based on tonight's performance, I think he is the biggest liability on the starting team.

As for the Jets being impressive, I don't know. I saw a Giants' team that was disorganized and depleted. I don't know if this game was a good judge either way to determine how the Jets were. It seemed clear that a new Giants DC isn't on the same page with his team. A lot of players were out of position and not even knowing where to line up. The first Jets TD was a gift because no one knew if they were supposed to be in the game or not on the Giants side of the ball.

I don't know what to think about tonights game. I can tell how bad the Giants really are. They look like that if they don't improve quickly that they might be lucky to win six games.

Sanchez was 6/6 in the second quarter for 67 yards. Against the Giants' starters in the first quarter, he was 7/11 for 52 yards and a YPA of 4.7 :lol2:

FYI, against the Giants' starting defense, Sanchez completed 5 out of 9 passes for 28 yards, 1 TD, and an INT. Not exactly impressive numbers. It was his 8 for 8 for 71 yards against the Giants back ups that made his night look good.

he completed an 80 yard TD bomb in the first quarter too...oh wait...well it was STILL a completion so I guess he looked REALLY GOOD!!!

I think your math is off and the number of passes he made against the starting Giants defense. Sanchez four incompletions/interceptions and all were against the starting defense. He finished the night 13 for 17.

Uh....did you READ Rex Ryan's comments before the game..?

Did you miss the Jet O starters playing the ENTIRE first half?

Did you NOT see that Sanchez CANNOT pass effectively to his left, the SAME problem he had last season???

Did YOU see the "hands to the face" penalty called on a Sanchez incompletion that kept that dink and dunk drive alive? I didn't see it on TV...they never replayed it and showed it...weird huh? and my cousin who lives in NY and is a lifelong Giants fan called me by cellphone and claimed the call was total phantom B.S. and blamed Walt Coleman for screwing the G-Men because he's a Pats ref...heh

I guess if your expectations for the Jets is 8-8 and building to the future then that first quarter was somewhat OK...but for all the press blithering and blathering by Ryan pregame and the expectations of a stone cold lock super bowl win for the Jets this season this was nothing but an embarrassment.

it was a preseason game. they can improve a lot over the next 6 months. unfortunately, i see a lot of potential in this jets team this season. and as far as rex's prediction is concerned, he didn't predict an undefeated preseason. whether they will reach that potential is another story. sanchez did not look particularly great against the giants starters, but i thought the jets D looked pretty good with the exception of the eli manning dink pass to ahmad bradshaw that went for like 60 yards.

remember in 04' when BB pulled the starters in the last preseason game because they were so awful and then put them back in? The team went onto win the super bowl, of course.

I was estimating when the starters went out. I guess I was two passes off. He was worse than I though! :bricks:

Not trying to judge. Just wanted to point out Sanchez's struggles vs. the depleted Giants' starting defense that was missing half their starting secondary and their middle LB.

it was a very clear penlaty,and there was a replay
in the replay everyone saw the Giants player pushing hand to the face of the Jets LG Matt Slauson(#68) and taking his helmet off.

i think the reactions are out there,its only a pre-season game,i didnt see any reactions to the pats pre-season game(good or bad) in any Jets forum but like your coach like to say it is what it is.

i think all of us need to realx and watch the pre-season with ease.
there is nothing you can tell by pre-season games,bad or good.

the Lions were 4-0 in pre-season,looked great and got of to a 0-16 season,so there you go.

lets just hope that no team has any kind of injuries

Oh damn, I didn't even know that. He had a 3.1 YPA on 9 throws against a team that was missing three defensive starters. Yeah, we're fine, guys.

The Giants were even more depleted on offense. Here is a list of starters who didn't dress tonight:


Cory Webster (CB)
Kenny Phillips (SS)
Keith Bullock (MLB)
Chris Snee (G)
Kevin Boss (TE)
Steve Smith (WR)

So they were missing their best offensive player (Smith) and best offensive lineman (Snee).

* Wrecks played his starters much longer than is normally expected for a preseason opener, certainly much longer than the Giants.
* The Green Beans have been openly goading the Giants into "rivalry" trash talk, etc.

Reminds me of the Pats' last preseason game in 2009, when Coughlin left his starters in for three drives against the Pats' backups. . . . 21-0 when they left. . . . and they go on to lose 38-27.
