I hate this matchup more than last Superbowl's matchup. I hate Richard Sherman's arrogance. He can dish it but he clearly can't take it(e.g. Roddy White). I can't respect a person like that.

But no way I'm gonna cheer for Manning and the Broncos.

I can't disagree more with this. I don't think he's class, first of all. He has skeletons in his closet. And I think the way people diminish the Patriots accomplishments to glorify Manning is mindboggling.

Exactly...you'd rather have people diminish Manning's accomplishments to glorify the Patriots and Brady. Admit it's based on bias and rivalry and move on. Not like there is anything wrong with that as a fan. The comparisons between Manning and Brady will continue as long as there are football fans, and you cannot logically say that Manning is not one of the best of all time. That Doesn't mean that Brady isn't either.

The media is all over it simply because it's a great story the way Manning has been playing after there was a question as to whether he'd ever play again, and now he's breaking all the big statistical records on a different team. It'll be harder to say "Brady is better than Manning" if Manning wins another Super Bowl, and Pats fans don't like it.

All this talk about being "classy" is overblown IMO. A lot of times, it's about what you CHOOSE to say, not about what you REALLY think. For example, Brady says the right things: "they outplayed us today, we give them a lot of credit, and blah, blah, blah." That's just playing the media game, and I think it's smart. His true thoughts and feelings are something entirely different, I have no doubt.

Deep down, I venture that most players are not the good sports about losing (or winning) that they portray publicly. They are among the most competitive people around. Competition is messy and ugly because the whole idea is to prove that "I'm better than you." In football, that's the ONLY thing...what it's all about.

Peyton Manning is the master of glib double-talk when dealing with the media, and it's almost like being a politician. Richard Sherman was not classy because he crossed that line IMO. "I'm the best" he says, gets angry, and wants to rub peoples' faces in it. I guess it's OK to FEEL that way, but to openly portray that is a no-no...you are not being classy. On the other hand, it's being more honest...kinda stupid and arrogant if not punk, but honest.

Sherman is a distillation of everything that is despicable about NFL athletes. From being a drug cheat to not even maintaining a minimum standard of decorum that is to be expected from any street beggar let alone someone in public standing as a PROFESSIONAL athlete.

That being said, my hate for Welker and the Broncos tactic on that play is running deep right now and there is no way I can root for them. While I despise Sherman as an individual, he hasn't done any direct harm to us or as far as I can tell taken any cheap-shots on the field with the intent to injure. Welker's move to me falls into a lower category of human than simply being a rude loudmouth.

As far as Manning goes, good luck to him. He is an excellent QB and has been playing at a high level for a long time despite neck surgery, weak arm and switching teams. If he has another SuperBowl ring or two, I will have no problem with it, he will have earned it.

Brady's personal accomplishments or recognition don't mean much to me. If he is the best QB in the game then I want him to show that on the field, not point back to trophies won ten years ago. If fans want Brady to have more rings than Manning, they should want Brady to win more instead of wanting Manning to lose more. That is just petty jealousy.

He ran after Crabtree who was 15 yards away, got in his face, and gave him the double choke sign. Carroll should demand that his players have higher standards than that, and sitting him for a couple of series will make the point to him and others.

But you are entited to your opinion.

Yeah nothing against Hercules, but I disagree with his assessment of that situation/fiasco. In regards to this particular post of yours Patsnut it is spot on in my opinion. I wish I could like this comment more than once. In regards to this thread the OP should have added a third option as I don't want either to win.

not really. sherman already won the NFCCG and made the game winning play. there was no need for him to rub it into the face of crabtree or rant about it afterwards. he got want he wanted - a trip to the super bowl.

brady was upset about a call - after losing the game. his anger was directed towards the official, not any of the opposing players.

sherman's comments were personal - calling crabtree an average player.

No double standard. Tom brady never made motion with his hand or verbally threatened to assault anyone. Tom confronted the ref in the heat of the moment in regards to a disagreement and cursed. He shouldn't have cursed, but what he did was no where even close to the same level Sherman took it to with Crabtree. Also Tom is way more humble than Sherman. Richard Sherman got in Crabtree's face after the play and motioned to Crabtree with a double choking sign. Then blasted him in the media to Erin Andrews. Sherman takes things too far. He should not have been motioning with his hands like he was going to be violent. Violence is never the answer. Nevertheless, he needs to seek therapy badly.

I agree with your post, but I need to add the following.
Correction Sherman called Crabtree a "Sorry Receiver" that's worst than being called an average player in my opinion.

Sorry, but self-serving and self-aggrandizing articles like his are not likely to convince many people. Yes, he is undeniably a superior player, what he has done to transition from college WR to NFL All-Pro CB is incredible (I choose that word pretty specifically). I'd like to admire him for his great accomplishments, hell, I do admire him for it, but his behavior makes it really difficult for me, and I suspect, many people who simply want him to act like an adult and a professional. Yes, what I want from him is my issue, not his, but the subject at hand, raised by your comment and by his article, is to explain and defend his behavior, and there the responsibility to convince me and the rest of the readers to understand and accept it lies entirely with him. To me, he failed utterly with his article.

Having the ability to construct a brief article is hardly impressive from some who, as we are constantly reminded, graduated from Stanford, especially in light of its mangled grammar. It is even less impressive when that individual's degree was in communications. It is not unfair to expect a Stanford communications degree-holder to make a cogent and convincing case. I think he failed miserably. Does he understand that, from the perspective of many of the people he is trying to convince in his article, he humiliated Erin Andrews, Fox Sports, the Seahawks, and himself? He offers nothing remotely apologetic and he doubles down on the egoism and denigration of his opponents. What a surprise that many people would rather see a modicum of sportsmanship in that moment, or at least in the explanation he attempts to offer the next day.

To spare others the hit on The MMQB site, the rationale he offers for his behavior is that: (1) he didn't have enough opportunities to make plays in the game (his team just won arguably the most important game in their franchise's history, but apparently his insufficient number of opportunities was foremost in his mind at that moment); (2) he was victimized by what he (and quite possibly no other sentient being) views as a bad call on the other play he was called upon to make in the game; (3) he allegedly was rebuffed in his attempt to congratulate Crabtree immediately following the great play he made to essentially end the game (we of course have only his word about this, with all the credibility or lack thereof that entails for him, and must not consider the contrast between what he alleges he went to Crabtree to do and what we saw him do immediately thereafter); (4) Crabtree isn't a great player like he is; (5) Crabtree wasn't nice to him last summer; and, (6) he is kind and generous to his family and community. This is supposed to be a compelling argument to people?

One thing I will say about the article, it definitely gives a new meaning to the phrase "BS in communications," that's for sure.

I actually like Sherman but he always seems to make things up or at least exaggerate his claims after these incidents like he is some victim.

I don't think it was a very genuine "Hey good game man!" hand shake. Probably stuck out his hand and said "that's the hand that denied you ****"lol. He admittedly doesn't like Crabtree.

No Tom wouldn't say that at all as he is a humble guy. I was watching an interview he did on some show forget the name (have to look through my DVR recordings). I remember the question though. Some interviewer asked Tom Brady if he thought of himself like Joe Montana and Steve Young. Brady said something along these lines, I grew up a 49ers fan and those guys were awesome. He then said that those guys are in another class and that he's just Tom Brady. Very classy, humble guy to say that when most of us know Tom is a great QB.
