Official Giants @ Pats postgame thread

The New England Patriots defense was put in the position to win against the New York Giants. The New England Patriots offense scored the go ahead touchdown with less than two minutes in the game. So much for the "vaunted" red zone defense of the New England Patriots. Where was the pass rush in the last two minutes of the game? How about the boneheaded plays by the New England Patriots defense in the last two minutes of the game?

Well if Brady didn't miss a wide open Aaron Hernandez in the endzone in the 1st half, then the defense never would have been in a position trying to hold a 3pt lead at the end of the game. Or if Kyle Arrington doesn't make a pick in the endzone, then the Giants take at least a 10 point lead and doesn't give the offense the chance to take the lead late.

The blame today for today's loss goes on multiple parties (White, Brown, Brady, etc.), but the defense clearly carried the team for most of the game today. They just made a few mistakes at the end of the game and were beaten when a few key playmakers were replaced with backups that you're only focusing on.

Re: Should our defense be riding in the short bus?

Instead of spending all that money on an over-the-hill wide receiver Chad Ochostinko, the free agency spending should have been allocated on safeties not over-hyped wide receiver(s). The New England Patriots deficiencies last season were on defense not offense. How does trading a third and a fourth round draft picks in 2011 for a second round draft pick in 2012 help the New England Patriots defense in 2011?

But remember, the draft and free agency happened before Belichick knew that Meriweather and Sanders both sucked. The only solution after the fact is signing a free agent or trading for someone. He tried and failed to sign Goldson. He brought in some older vets and deemed them not an upgrade. He didn't find anybody worth trading for, apparently.

The most dangerous hole in a roster is the one that nobody knows is there until it's too late. Well, that perfectly describes the Pats' safety position.

Oh and Curtis Painter is the least of the Colts problems this year. Maybe if you paid attention you'd realize that the Colts are so bad because their defense is a joke, their offensive line is a turnstile, and they have no running game.
Sounds like the New England Patriots in 2011 except the New England Patriots have Tom Brady and the Colts have Curtis Painter.

Well if Brady didn't miss a wide open Aaron Hernandez in the endzone in the 1st half,

That's a good one. Didn't think of that one.

Another one is the failed bomb to an open Ochocinco. I really don't want to have to look at the play by play right now. Anyone know if that drive ended in a TD anyway?

The Colts gave up 62 points to the Saints. Pick any two games combined this year and the Pats haven't even given up that much. Exaggeration much?

I want a friggin' kicker to hit a damned 27 yard field goal just before halftime to at least put SOMETHING on the board for the half. I want the QB to hit an EASY target in Hernandez to score a TD in the same half. Zero points to open a game for a full half???? WTF kind of game plan did they work on all week?

I think we saw an all phases kind of loss.

that's not the point...Brady MISSED a wide open Chad...think about that...he makes a good pass and the unbelievable pressure on Johnson takes a break maybe...a big catch..a solid contribution...I'd say Ocho AND the team could've used that...instead we're staring at this clusterfack of a loss.

Do you realize that ANOTHER ditsy little punk QB never had a hand laid on him today????This wasn't the Rothlisberger three step drop offense...it was exactly as I said we'd see, the standard Eli drops and long looks downfield...jeezus krist ,if ever there was a need to blitz the bejeezus out of somebody it was Eli on that last drive...at least they may have hurried him into throwing shorter passes and dumps...damn I'm pi$$ed at what I'm re-watching here....

Arrington and Brown were called for subsequent pass interference penalties to the aforementioned Arrington pick. The New England Patriots defensive backs were their own worst enemies during crunch time.

The Pats were officially credited with 8 QB hits. That's far from never having a hand laid on him.

Ummm.... I think it's pretty clear that I pay attention. Just because I try not to fall prey to either side's extremes, you think that's some sign? Sorry to rock your world, but the reality is that we don't know that the Patriots would have won any game with Hoyer under center. We've not seen Hoyer in that situation to even begin to really evaluate it.

And the "average QB" argument is nonsensical, because teams scheme and play differently against a Tom Brady than they do against an "average QB", even on days that Brady is struggling.

Don't fall prey to either extremes? Every comment you make is either negative or critical. So I'm pretty sure you always fall on an extreme.

hits are great...they mean he didn't throw the ball and make completions...oh wait...that's sacks that stop completions...."hits" ...I don't give a crap about hits...it's sacks that change drives

The 2011 New England Patriots defense has not faced the 2011 New Orleans Saints offense this year.

A well coached defensive back does not run over a wide receiver with the game on the line especially with the football in flight. How is that Tom Brady's fault? Last time I checked, Tom Brady was not the defensive backfield coach!

You're approaching "talking to a wall" status too. If Brady doesn't throw 2 picks and lose a fumble and miss a wide open 85 for a TD and miss an open Hernandez for a TD and all that, that drive doesn't matter.

See, that kind of post is just proof that it's you who's not paying attention.

I never claimed otherwise. That's the difference between our positions.

This is pretty much the most ridiculous comment I've heard tonight.

Damn if Tom Brady is not perfect for every god damn play. Maybe you should apply the same god damn set of standards for the New England Patriots defense for a change.

Eli was 2/8 for completions of 8 and 23 when hit. He was 0/4 when hit on 3rd down.

Is it irrational to have different expectations for the offense and the defense? I don't see why that's a problem.
