The Patriots run a lot of timing picks that depend on a receiver not running into a guy or else the throw coming at a certain time so the pick player is throwing a block rather than a pick (Hogan was throwing a block but the ball got to Cooks later than expected). They're legitimate calls.

I guess pick plays are only illegal when they are run by the Pats. I don't think I've seen one called on another team all season.

It's my least favorite play in the Josh McD playbook. If you're going to do that anyway, why not just try for the endzone? It's a makeable FG anyways.
