In basketball, especially college basketball, you see refs tip the scales against teams from other conferences (refs are hired by the conference). The free throws for one side become so lopsided that, when the home team develops a big enough lead, the refs will start to make calls that won't change the balance of things, just to make it look more even in the box score.
