They didn’t sign Brissett to bench him I don’t see us trading for Fields.
I hope they didn’t sign Brissett with the intention on him just being handed the starting job, he should have a chance to compete for it but dudes a backup

Mike Williams is an interesting trade candidate on the field but damn the salary is high. $17M salary and a $3M roster bonus due 3/16 so $20M total. Ton of money for a guy coming off injury.

BUT, his skill set is exactly what we're missing on offense. Even if we did land Ridley. We need one of those outside, down the field threats so the other guys have space.

Looking at some of the Chargers' potential cap casualties/possible trade bait, current cap #, annual contracts, and age (in 2024).
LAC is currently $26 million over the cap, and needs to fix that by tomorrow.

In regards to @DW Toys suggestion of a trade: I think that would make sense for a team that is already a playoff contender - but much less so for a team that is rebuilding. My concern woul be that they are here for only a year or two, then leave in free agency. That's an acceptable trade-off for a contender; less so for a rebuilding team.

Now if you want to try and sign one of these players after they are released, without having to trade awat draft capital - that's a different consideration.

Edit: hat tip to @Sciz for pointing out that trades cannot be made until after the start of the new league year, Wednesday. Teams must also be under the cap at that point - therfore such a trade cannot be made.

Khalil Mack - Edge - 33
Cap#: $38,517,500
2024: $17,550,000
2025: Free Agent

Joey Bosa - Edge - 29
Cap#: $36,611,666
2024: $15,000,000
2025: $17,000,000
2026: Free Agent

Keenan Allen - WR - 32
Cap#: $34,717,500
2024: $18,100,000
2025: Free Agent

Mike Williams - WR - 30
Cap#: $32,460,000
2024: $17,000,000
2025: Free Agent

Derwin James - SS - 28
Cap#: $19,856,494
2024: $12,750,000
2025: $13,750,000
2026: $14,500,000

They sign Brissett to have the option to sit the rookie if he is not ready.

Brissett is a great locker room guy who will have the job to mentor the new kid.

The Chargers have to be under the cap before 4:00 tomorrow, but trades can’t be completed until after 4:00. Once they’re under the cap then a trade could give them additional room, but hypothetical trades to get the Chargers under the cap is a flawed premise.

If he's amenable, you can immediately extend him and convert his salary this year into a signing bonus and dramatically lower his cap hit this year.

I'd probably dangle Mike Williams as leverage against Calvin Ridley. "If you love Jacksonville so much you can enjoy it there for way less than what we were gonna pay. We're about to send a 5th to LAC for Mike Williams and give your cash to him instead."

Nathan Rourke is already better TC won't lie believe that.

According to a source, the Patriots have shown some early interest in veteran defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins during the NFL’s legal tampering period. A second source described the interest as the Patriots doing their due diligence on Rankins and the defensive tackle market.

Williams like Ridley is not exactly 30 yet thank you they both have some Months to go stop rushing their ages please.

I think $17M for Williams is below market. I would do that pronto.

What's the market on Ridley (29)? $22M aav?

I'd rather trade for Williams w/ a 4th Rd pick.

I should have clarified: the ages posted are what they will be this year, 2024 - before the NFL season is finished.

Same. Makes you wonder if the source is actually just Calvin Ridley saying they need to come with a huge bag. And even if somehow they do pony up, do you really want him if he actually wanted to be somewhere else? Yeah, he'll probably get over it, but are you getting 90% effort for the next 3-4 years?
If I'm Wolf
I say you have 24 hours and we are moving on
In 24 hours.....MOVE ON
Then in future, Agents and Players know you don't bluff
Personally I don't like the DIVA

Barmore / Rankins / Godchaux seems like a good interior DL rotation. Then Euklele can be a rotational pass rusher, along with guys like Wise and White kicking inside.
