The Chiefs have only $4.5 million in cap space, prior to paying for their upcoming draft picks. They restructured several of their big contracts, each of the last two years. I question whether they would go down that road again, even for a a talent like Hopkins. They last restructured Mahomes contract in 2021. They could do another restructure of his contract, but that would lead to some massive cap numbers in future years.

The Chiefs have an estimated $74M in 2024. They could easily spread out some conversions of Salary to Signing bonus for players like Thuney, Kelce, and Reid.

after how many more Super Bowls?

The Chiefs have been very blessed the past couple of years in terms of not having major injuries. It remains to be seen if that continues.
I'm not sold on them for 2023. They lost both starting Tackles and have only replaced one of them. And they replaced him with a guy who was a RT with Jax, but is supposedly going to be protecting Mahomes blind-side now.

The Chiefs have a lot of questions at receiver/tight end after Kelce. Toney averaged 2 receptions per game for them in 7 games. Scandling a whopping 2.4. They're going to be asking a LOT of Skyy Moore to go from slightly more than 1 reception per game to 4-5 receptions per game if they want him to replace Smith-Schuster.

Their RB room consists of Pacheco and Edwards-Helaire. McKinnon's excellent 3rd down abilities aren't back (yet). Though he will be 31 in less than a month. Ronald Jones moved on to the Cowboys.

McKinnon and Smith-Schuster accounted for 134 receptions that they haven't replaced yet.

They have Mahomes and Reid they'll definitely be in the conversation. As much as it pains me to say

Warm take: The Patriots can and will beat the Chiefs this season.

Pretty warm take. Possibly even hot. Depends on your sensitivity.

Well historically, Belichick has done fairly well against Andy Reid offenses. Although the two of the three times Mahomes has gone against the Pats' defense (both in 2018) he had awesome games. He was good against them in 2020, but that was in part because the Pats had Hoyer and Stidham playing and both were awful and kept on giving Mahomes opportunities. Each QB turned over the ball two times.

Yeah... I'm optimistic .. ownership has stated they want to surround Mac with playmakers like eagles did... ok who is the AJ brown? Is what I'd ask..

Yes, absolutely correct. 2019 reffs screwed us, 2020 we turned the ball over in the red area.. I'm convinced with cam being able to run the ball would have given us a better shot that season.. had he been available

How about we worry about 2023 first before we get to 2024, ok?

The Chiefs still have the draft to patch a few areas like RT. They also added Mike Edwards to strengthen their secondary and Charles Omenihu at DE. Arguably they lost a bigger piece of the puzzle in Tyreek Hill last year and it worked out just fine for them.

With what QB?

Totally understandable question after Tom Brady who is the greatest QB that ever existed in the history of this sport and all other opinions are complete trash, beat Kermit like a drum each and every single time when it mattered.

Going back to 2020 the Patriots were within a FG of the Chiefs in KC in the 4th quarter with the team not sure if they were even playing the day before and Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham were playing QB if you want to call it that. So why would it matter who's QB. And the game is in Foxboro.

Patriots will beat them.

It's called a Typo, Dumblebutt.
Try actually READING instead of getting your baby girl panties in a twist because I mentioned NOTHING about their defense (which was barely league average last year) . Better yet, take your troll arse and leave

Brady beat Mahomes like a drum in the 2018 AFCCG? You may want to actually re-watch that game. And don't make me bring up Brady's crappy head to head performances in the playoffs against Tannehill, Foles, Eli, Plummer, Flacco, and Sanchez...

The Pats almost beat the Chiefs in 2020, so yeah, logic tells you the game will be played the exact same way in 2023...

Yes they did so why would you ask me with what QB? Unless you're saying QB matters a lot more than coaching which means... nah you don't wanna go there.

Hoyer to Raiders.

Typical know-nothing. Bringing up items that have no bearing on what is actually being said.

Chiefs are worse off now than they were then. Pats are better now than then..
His logic is better than anything you've offered.

And what Mahomes brings is nothing new to BB.

Mahomes is 2-2 against the Belichick...and would be 3-1 if it weren't for a Dee Fords offsides. I think he'll do just fine against Mac/Zappe/whatever.

The $74 in 2024 cap space becomes much less impressive when one considers the fact that this only accounts for 25 contracted players.

Also, I forgot that KC already freed up $10m in cap space prior to free agency using Mahomes’ contract, so he is no longer an option this offseason.

The Chiefs did tap into Mahomes’ contract, creating nearly $10 million in cap space with an accounting move affecting a $35 million bonus.

Thuney’s projected cap number is already scheduled to be $22m in 2024. Would they want to restructure his contract for a second year in a row? I doubt it. A Kelce restructure would represent a third consecutive contract restructure. They could do it but seems unlikely to me.
