I was not aware he would be fighting for 4 or 5. My bad.
Maybe he'd be fighting for a starting role opposite Smith-Schuster against Parker and Thornton. He did play pretty well after his return from a broken ankle for the Lions.
I guess my point is that unless he won the starting job outright, he'd likely end up as the 4th/5th WR. I'm not sure that the Patriots would see him that way in this offense. Maybe they sign him and deal/cut Parker, but Parker didn't play all that badly. Especially when you consider the horrible offensive coaching.
Chark doesn't offer anything special teams wise, so that would be another player in the WR room who doesn't bring anything beyond the offense. ;
