Collins better be a stud, don't screw us again BB.

I completely disagree. McDaniels took this guy in the fist round a few years ago and now TT makes the league minimum. Not to mention Mallet is gone after next year. I think there's a 75% chance he makes the squad.

I think 75-80% is a good guess. There's a pretty good case he should make the roster as a 3rd QB, but he will really add value if he shows that he can fill in for multiple positions in a pinch (QB, HB, STs). My guess right now is that he will need to play himself off the roster unless two or three guys outright outplay him.

Any indication if he was lining up as a LB or a DE?
Reiss didn't give any further information and I haven't found any from another source. Perhaps in his blog he will elaborate as the rookies can play a big role on the team this year.

Regarding Collins :

Jamie Collins was standing up at linebacker, swapping in with Brandon Spikes on D. Looks strong in coverage.

Jamie Collins looked really good out there. Seriously.

I can't stand the media. I'm listening to Dennard's interview. They must have asked the same question 20 different ways and Dennard's response was the same to all of those questions.
Seriously, after the first 3 questions, it was obvious that he wasn't going to answer anything associated with his court case. LOL

:rocker: It's only day one of camp, but this is VERY good to read. I can't wait to see the kid play.

I'd love for Bill to screw us the way he has for the last 12 years :rocker:

Here's a second for the opinion on Collins :

Derek Havens ‏@PatriotsHaven 6m

Looked like he had been out there for a long time, comfortable.

Not sure why people are acting so surprised that Collins is good in coverage. Leading up to the draft, there were many reports that he was a solid cover guy. At Southern Miss he had 41 3rd-down stops against passes and 10 4th down stops against passes. Think people saw the sack numbers and instantly pigeonholed him as a pass rusher only.

If Collins is swapping in with Spikes, does that mean he goes in at middle linebacker? Or does one of Mayo/Hightower shift?

Looks like my initial suspicions about what the Patriots brought him in for (coverage specialist) early on are so far correct.

MLB has a lot more coverage responsibility on nickel downs so my guess is that is when they are swapping in Collins.

******* pumped to hear he's looking good, though.

That doesnt mean it would transfere to the pro game.

Nick Underhill reported today that Marcus Cannon was working with the starters today at right guard.

Something else that should probably be considered noteworthy.

Alfonzo Dennard not with the Patriots' 1 in the base D. Comes on in nickel, plays in the base with second team for 7-on-7s.

I know it is way too early to read anything into this, but that would mean that Dowling is out with Talib on the outside as the starting corners, and Arrington is the backup/4th CB.

Arrington was the starting CB across Talib.

This is good news, he must be showing enough to earn the coaches trust.

What a gross, rainy day. It was still cool to see the team out there for the first time.

-Dobson was with the 1s starting across from Amendola. He made some good catches and beat Arrington, but Talib had him on lockdown. Overall a good day for him.

-Boyce was with the 3s, couldn't really tell much from him.

-Tebow....we all heard he was a bad practice player, but wow. He threw a pick directly at Ebner and threw a bunch of ducks.

-I'm still more impressed with Bolden's burst and quickness compared to Ridley's.

-Kamar Aiken had a solid day.

-Michael Jenkins looked meh. Slow route running and in general. Hope Dobson beats him out.

-We have a new Woodhead on the team, except this time at CB. Stephon Morris, UDFA CB Penn State, listed at 5'8, looked like a little kid standing near Dowling. He only got a couple of reps but I'll be interested to see if he has any game at that size.

-Thompkins came on the field with no jersey, left for an hour, came out with jersey, and then held his helmet for an hour and a half. No reps. Weird.

-Mallett was typical Mallett with overthrows and poor pocket presence. Brady looked like Brady.

-Ballard TE1 with the 1s, while it seemed like a three way rotation with the 2s between Hooman, Sudfeld, and Fells.

Football is back. :D
