O/T: Way too early look at Pats Free Agents for 2023

I had my doubts about Meyers talent level, and his lack of success getting in the endzone & his lack of YAC.

That being said…. Meyers is currently our WR1 & the only guy you can depend on getting open.

I would like to see him resigned on a team friendly deal with decent amount of that contract guaranteed

Although he is currently our WR1, he is a complementary player, but a good one.

The fact he is such a good blocker, makes me believe Belichick will resign him

At the end of the day, it takes two. Why would any skill position player want to re-sign with the team? If they love the area, BB, moneys equal, I guess those are some decent reasons. The biggest reasons not to would be the lack of a legit offensive coaching staff, uncertainty at the QB position, and I guess just plain uncertainty on the offensive side of the ball in general.

Of the major guys, Meyers and Jonathan Jones are the only ones I see them keeping. I think they would like to have Harris back, but he is going to get far more than the Pats would spend somewhere else. I am guessing Slater and McCourty will retire.

Harris back with the all purpose Rham? I don't think so RB's are a dime a dozen.

I said he wouldn't be back. I said they would like to have him back, but they won't pay for him like another team would. I think Belichick really likes Harris. He would have him back at the right price, but he is going to be paid exponentially more than what Belichick thinks is the right price.

I like Meyers just like the other guy but I think he's going get pursued by others. I am hoping Bourne and Thornton make strides in the Second half especially Bourne. I really thought Bourne was a better and more explosive player than Meyers.

Rob... Rookie Kevin Harris is very good RB watch for him next year.

I hope you are right. Really had to judge how good a rookie RB will pan out on this team. Most don't even get to see the field all that much their rookie season.

I know we have seen a lot of them make an Impact in year two.

People this season who have more 3rd down catches for a 1st down than Meyers (1 fewer game than 2 of them):
Olave, Kelce, Ja'Marr.

Not sure how he's going to reach that 3yrs $22.5mil that Breer is talking about. Guy is clearly just a WR4 as far as that list goes.

Meyers is excellent at moving the chains and that is very important

He has a couple touchdown improvement.
His biggest knock….. YAC !

Catching the ball & then looking for the ground, is his biggest weakness

Who are the contracts we could dump off, and how much will we save in making those moves?

I’m primarily looking at that Jonnu Smith contract for this. Any others though? Guy/Godchaux contracts possibly?

That a bit high by a factor of 20 to 30 percent. I know the receiver market is a bit crazy but he's not a prolific TD scorer?
High? Based on the market, it's about 40% too low... I anticipate 15 to 16m a year on a 4 year deal... The only reason it's not an 18m aav contract is the number of tds...

Last week there was an article linked on this site that insinuated the team thinks his value is in the 7 to 8m range... That's just nuts... If the team is thinking 10m or less, he's already gone

According to overthecap, I believe were stuck with Jonnu in 2023. Dead cap would exceed his cap hit so cutting him would do no good. In 2024 we could save $12m with $6m in dead cap if we cut him.

One thing we do need is a new punter... The one we have now should be gone...

I’d like to see a breakdown of this, but it sure seems like most of yards come off of play action pass where LB's are cleared out after biting on the run fake.

Jonnu got restructured and guaranteed this year.

Ain't happening.

Start cheering for Jonnu. A lot.

I would be stunned if Wynn is here in 23. I look for an overhaul of the OL next offseason.
The only replacement they'll have is likely at RT, Swing Tackle and possibly back-up Interor Lineman.

I fully expect the Pats to draft at least one OT next year. I also wouldn't be surprised for them to draft someone who can play both tackle positions. That's all part of normal roster turnover.

A lot will depend on how they view Steuber, Hines, and Russey. If the Pats coaching staff feels they've made significant strides, then it will be later rounds or UDFA.
