Went through the airport there over a half-dozen times on my way to/from WestPac, including January & July of '85... Big stuffed polar bear inside the terminal is my only real lasting memory of the place...

My first time transiting through Elmendorf was in September of 94. Got off the plane and was stunned by the view. Absolutely amazing.

Never got to spend any real time there - wish I had.

Yeah there were mountains all all round the place... Great view of them during those July stop-overs, when we could see them even at 3am, which was the time we almost always seemed to arrive there for some reason...

Ahh, the day-time differences of travel!

My second assignment was Yokota AB, Japan. When my wife arrived we spent the night in billeting, ready for the housing appointment the next day.

She woke me up at 0430, seeing the daylight outside and started to panic that we'd be late. I looked at the clock, saw the time, and told her "Land of the rising sun, remember?". Her response - "I hate this place!". Didn't really improve from there.

That game was so awesome.

Total smash-mouth football. We ran it right down their throats and they had no answers.

Muddy and drizzling.

Marino throwing picks

MIA fumbling the ball all over the place

Shula throwing fits.

NEP football porn at its finest.

That was your big day Bob, how does it feel all these years later

Actually, it's kind of recent.

We kicked people's ass*s in '76, ran into a crappy team's Super Bowl in Pontiac for their new coach's first game, and the usual bag job in the Orange Bowl, but destroying the overrated Colts in Memorial Stadium and then the clincher at Tampa were righteous.

Nobody nationally paid any attention of course, except Howard Cosell. But it felt great knowing we probably had the best team in the league. Locally as well, the Patriots were a punching bag and everyone pretended 1974 either never happened or was a fluke.

So six days after Tampa we face the league favorite, who we already pounded into submission here. It was at their place, and besides the already by now usual disrespect of the Patriots, there was the Frauders' crybaby entitlement and national hype machine. The officials would spend the day pulling the usual home job crap, but despite their best efforts as the game wound down they were faced with no alternative but to desperately take control of the game. So it's a totally fake SBXI giving the Frauders their fake title of 'Super Bowl winning' coach John Madden, quarterback Ken Stabler etc.

But it still felt good to be the best team in the league.
