NY Post Writer claims all of Belichick's moves this year were because of the Jets

No. The loss to the GIANTS triggered this.

It has just taken us a little while to get the right personnel together.

Why is it a stretch to believe this? Many of the moves the other AFC East teams have made in recent years have been in response to the Patriots success and personnel.

It only stands to reason that if you play against a team 2-3x a year, doing well against that team is important.

Belichick is obviously trying to make the team better every year. Part of making the team better is recognizing what the other teams are doing and making sure you hav e an answer for it. I can't comprehend why this would be a foreign concept.

Rule # 1, no links for any kind of garbage. Unnecessary clicks leads to more like this.

Garbage in , garbage out

But for the record, our pass rush was at best anemic for the past few years and it is about time Bill did something about this.

That counts as Journalism there? id rather read a middle school newspaper. I wouldn't wipe my ass with the NY Post for fear of chaffing.

The loss to the Jets in 2001, when Mo Lewis knocked out Drew Bledsoe, eventually triggered all of these moves.

Sure the Jets were a reason but not solely..you have to give the other teams credit for the moves this year as well.

I look back at the Browns game which was the only real game of the year where NE was dominated and McCoy had plenty of time to find his receivers while Hillis ran wild up the middle....games like that I am sure sat in the mind of Belichick.

Thread title should read: "NY Post Writer doesnt know his arse from his elbow"

Exactly. Ask yourself who is audience is and you'll know what to expect, so why bother reading this exercise in JetsFanBlow.

This first paragraph from Karen Guregian's article sums up why any changes were made. This is what I've seen over the past couple of years and has sent numerous couch pillows heading for my TV. It has LITTLE to do with the Jets.

Patriots defense in a rush to get to QB | Boston Herald

"There’s no denying what the evidence suggests. And if you don’t believe what your eyes told you at first glance, it’s readily available on film. The Patriots played a game in which you saw an opposing quarterback terrified and running for his life.

This wasn’t the usual drop back, survey the field and deliver. This was take the snap, utter an unmentionable at the on-charging rush, and flee the pocket."

Unfortunately I clicked on the link - it was worse than I figured it would be.

Yes, the Patriots may build a roster with some thought towards how to defeat the next best team in the division. Guess what: all 31 other NFL teams do the same thing!

Other than that, the article was so over the top with hyperbole and innuendos, if it was done by somebody auditioning for a chance to write for Bleacher Report they would probably reject it.

Here's a summary for everyone so you don't give the writer the satisfaction of a click with this amateur pandering to the masses:

  • "Bill Belichick’s frantic — and, in many cases, uncharacteristic — moves since that epic 28-21 Jets triumph on the road in the divisional round seven months ago look downright desperate coming from a team with New England’s recent pedigree"

  • Then there is "proven locker room headaches ... lavished a shocking $5 million on aging ... drafted a huge character concern ... parade in washed-up veterans ... change in defensive schemes" ... and then a not so subtle obligatory spygate reference.

  • That's followed by "loaded up on graybeards and notorious troublemakers" before bringing spygate up again; this time not holding back on his thoughts about Belichick and the incident: "the vaunted “Patriot Way” — which the statistics say worked a lot better in the playoffs before New England was caught cheating — could keep them straight."

Oh yeah, one more reason to not visit the Post: when I went to copy and paste portions of that article for the synopsis above I got a pop-up ad; moments after that my antivirus software notified me that a malicious threat had been detected and blocked.

Bottom line:

Don't click on the link!

This article is such a lie. At least one move (claiming Garrett Mills off waivers) was made because of Brad Childress.

Well, considering the trade of Randy Moss and trade for Deion Branch was also a move to counter the Jets, it is logical that the Pats did these moves to beat the Jets.

There is such an ego in NY that the world revolves around their teams. They think everything the Pats do is in response to the Jets.

Eh. Honestly, who really cares? Whatever his reasons, I like what BB has done this year and if the Jets media wants to take credit for it. Let them. They can also take credit for getting their ***es wooped too.

This article has Patriots hater/Jets lover oozing out of it.

I read about two paragraphs, and that was all I needed to read. Anytime anyone mentions "the Patriots are 2-3 in the playoffs since getting caught cheating" (thats not the exact quote but close enough) you just know they are Pats haters.

Then, how could drafting a QB (Mallett) that wont play for 2-4 years be evidence that the team is in panic mode? I think trading that pick for a veteran player who could help right away is more of a panic. If anything, the draft pick shows the opposite of panic.

I am sure that losing to the Jets in the first round has a lot to do with it, but it isn't about the Jets specifically.

Belichick never makes moves to beat one team. It is an exercise in futility. Even if the Pats and Jets meet in the playoffs, it is only three games in the 19-20 games they have to play if they are going to win a Super Bowl.

Belichick made these moves because he didn't feel the team last year was good enough to win a Super Bowl, not beat the Jets. If losing both regular season games to the Jets meant the Pats had a better shot to win the Super Bowl, he would start me at QB in those games.
