No Love for Hakeem Nicks

Boldin is not coming to NE. They will resign him. Forget about it. He likes it out there...plays for a winning team that's going to be right back in it.

Nicks is also a long shot. No idea what kind of money he's going to demand coming off an injury plagued season, but as someone on here said...there aren't many FA WR's who are difference makers this year. Teams are going to be competitive in trying to get play makers. We've got our OWN PLAYERS to sign and we don't have tons of cap space. Talib is priority #1. Would I be totally fine parting ways with Edelman and signing Nicks? Yes. I think TE is a bigger need than WR to be honest though.

I am not confident in our receiving corps next year to win a SB- which is the goal. I like Dobson's talent but I don't know if he has the heart to be a stud WR. You're going to be counting heavily on Boyce, Dobson and Thompkins improving ALOT if you decide you're just going to stick with them. All three guys have been injured, and even when on the field were extremely inconsistent. But I just don't see them spending 6 Mill a year on another WR when we've got other areas to fill.

Agreed about Boldin, as nice as it would be I don't see SF letting him walk away. More importantly, he's stated how much he likes it there too, which is important for an older vet like him who has already expressed the possibility of retirement last year.

TE is obviously a need, but can and should be addressed via the draft. Unlike the position of rookie WRs here, TE can have a quicker impact in this system. I think that is the best way to go, although I'd be for attempting to try and bring back Gonzalez for one last go 'round. Obviously the chances of that happening are extremely low though.

I certainly don't want to have to depend on Dobson here to be our outside stud WR in only year two. I'd like to see him make some progress on last year and get into the 50's in terms of receptions, but we should not have to depend on him either. In my opinion, it seems that some are doing exactly that. The truth is that he is still an unknown, much like many of our other past rookie WRs. He has shown flashes at times, but has also been injured and has absolutely no guarantee of automatically transforming into some kind of blue chip stud, as many are suggesting.

I see Thompkins having a hard time even making an impact next year whatsoever, and he may not even be here. Any determinations are difficult to make as far as future projections due to the fact that we were forced to use some of these guys under extremely odd circumstances last season. Keep in mind that none of our rookie WRs looked particularly good, as over the last 3 months (since mid-October) they had totals of 18, 11, and 8 catches respectively. That's pretty lousy for any team, let alone ours. I'm all for keeping Dobson and Boyce in terms of hoping that they progress in year two, but that hardly solves the problem in my opinion.

Well, obviously they aren't going to franchise him and pay 10.5m, but he'll most likely command something around his 6m dollar figure from last season. He probably only has another couple of seasons left, so I see no reason why he'd be expecting anything over 2/10 or so, and SF is in a fine position to pay that.

Also, just because Kaepernick is eligible for a pay raise doesn't necessarily mean that he'll get it this particular season, it could wait until next year and his options are quite limited in holding out, etc. Remember that NE was one of the few proactive teams in terms of immediately paying their players immediately after their 2nd year. Kaepernick may just as well want to wait another year to see how far he can lead them again, especially if they don't offer him enough money in a quick band-aid like fix.

SF is in a good cap situation, and Boldin recently tweeted that he'll definitely be staying in SF, so I think they have something tentatively worked out. I respect your position, but I honestly don't see anyway that Boldin hits free agency. The 2 brothers obviously worked out that trade for a reason, since it was highly beneficial for SF. I doubt they suddenly just allow him to walk away due to him commanding something in the 5 to 5.5m range. It's not like that's a ton of money for a blue chip wide receiver who benefits their offense greatly.

If he does hit the open market, it would not surprise me if the Pats go after him. And maybe other teams as well. Everyone sees how much of a big time player he is.

Nit: Kprnk has been in the NFL for 3 seasons, 2014 will be his 4th

I think BB is blowing smoke this Team need Weapons and Offense and Currently we have none. Denver and Manning showed what having weapons means.

The Patriots had weapons. Unfortunately:

- Hernandez, one of the greatest mismatches in the league, decided to kill somebody and is in prison.

- Gronkowski, one of the most dynamic players in football, and a guy who is truly unstoppable when healthy, got his knee shredded on a low hit.

- Amendola, a very talented receiver, battled serious groin injuries all year and was never really healthy.

- Vereen, a dynamic pass-catching RB, was great when healthy, but he missed a chunk of time this year as well.

So imagine Denver missing Decker and Julius Thomas, and having Welker and Moreno seriously banged up.

I am not sure Denver would be in the Super Bowl right now.

Where do questions about Dobson's heart come from?

I heard this morning that the 49ers are preparing to give Kaepernick a 20 mill a year contract. That will be the beginning of the end of their competitive run.

You want a mediocre starting caliber WR who has attitude and commitment problems why?

Because that will give him something else to criticize Belichick for next season.

I still see WR as a priority even though I expect Dobson and Boyce to produce more next season. I agree on Thompkins but he could still surprise given the fact that he has defied expectations to this point. As I have said in other threads they need to retain Edelman and add a WR and TE at the top of the draft. A TE who can give them 50-60 Receptions and another high quality rookie WR who can challenge the incumbents and give them what Dobson did this season with a high ceiling would pretty much fill out their receiving corps and give them the depth and talent they need to put them over the top.

no...not really

What is he then. People forget his good seasons cuz of an injury plagued season. I guess Larry fitz isn't a number 1 cuz he hasn't posted 1000 yards in each of his last 2 seasons.

I love this argument. Pick out one thing that 2 guys have in common and them say that means whatever you say about one means you think that about the other.
Please direct me to the reports of Larry Fitzgerald tanking on treatment for the injuries he was dealing with.
Or compare and contrast Fitz's TEN TDs to Hicks' ZERO.

What is he? Not a good #1 WR

you do realise that 3 of mannings "weapons" are on rookie contracts...its not like they went out and signed all these guys(besides welker)

I think Dobson especially and Boyce will be big parts of the offense next year....and maybe the pats go out and sign a Sanders. and a receiving TE(or draft one)
