Right...I understand the benefit of trading him to San Francisco, but by all reports the Patriots reached out to the 49ers and proposed a trade for a second round pick, which was shockingly low. Considering it was halfway though JG's final year, including additional picks, or moving up to a first round pick, in the even the 49ers re-signed JG, is the norm for this type of deal. Because of the uncertainty, the conditional pick made sense. The 49ers were going to need to pay JG a pretty big contract if they wanted to extend him, or they could have franchised him. In either case, he's a $20M+ player. A second round pick is not fair compensation for that type of player in any world.
