People were on his side when he was playing well. I think scrutiny and reasonable criticism are fair.
Yeah, but a lot of that criticism hasn't been reasonable. Kid's in his second season playing in a situation that would have made Brady snap.

I never thought when the post-Brady era finally came there would be people actively rooting against a kid they'd eventually draft just one season later who is dealing with a terrible O-line and losing one of the best offensive coordinators in team history.

This is definitely a weird time.

Ever since Brady left, there has been consistently one group of people rooting against the success of the team or individuals on the team. We went from the Pro-Brady/anti-Belichick group into the pro-Zappe/anti-Mac group. Not surprisingly, a large portion of each group overlap.

I already posted two similar plays contrasting the arm strength of the two (Mac - for now, we'll see what Zappe looks like in 2023 - does have the edge). Zappe was under duress quite a bit in the Chicago game and his performance reflected how bad they protected him. Mac doesn't seem to get that same benefit of the doubt.

I mean, I get it if he was a guy who acted entitled and didn't keep working hard to get better. But Mac's done everything that's been asked and more and has even gone so far to start challenging the guy who is holding them back. That's about all you can ask for at this point.

I don't know...it's just been a crazy year and I certainly wonder what the next few are going to be like.

You also see with many in this group defending Brady because Leftwich is a horrible OC (even though Leftwich has been the OC the entire time Brady has been in Tampa) and his o-line, yet dismiss any defense of Jones because of Patricia's play calling (despite the overwhelming national call by former players who have no dog in this fight and claim Patricia is a train wreck) and the disaster that is the Patriots' offensive line.

It is strange the way people are rooting nowadays against an individual player, but I think it is a product of the times. You have to blame somebody it is sort of funny I was thinking back to the 60's and wondering what it would have been like to have forums like this then.

I was passed back and forth between Boston in the winter and Philadelphia in the summer. I remember going with my uncle to Phillie's games and the big collapse and everyone was moaning about Mauch's managing decisions then. I can just imagine the forum rants there would have been what my uncle and many did not take into account is Mauch had to go to a two man rotation which isn't sustainable.

With the Patriots I feel like people aren't taking into account the injuries and illness that has struck the O-line and its obvious failings that were going to come from that. There isn't an NFL team that can lose two OTs and have one sick for three weeks and expect their line to provide top notch protection.

I don't know if Mac, Zappe or an alternative we don't know about is the answer, but we have to let it play out and see what we do have I feel. Then go from there.

Just some ramblings on my part about what I think is happening who knows.

There are some on here that think most of us HATE Mac, and want him to fail, but I personally don't think that is true at all.
I want him to be a stud, he seems like a hard worker, and is well liked.

I haven't given up on him, but I'm not enthusiastic that he's ever going to be what I was hoping he'd be, stats are just something that shows the utter futility, and I'm well aware that it's not ALL his fault.

A lot of fun games to watch this weekend as far as relating to the Patriots and just because some scenarios are funny:

Bills v Dolphins - if the Bills win, that helps the Pats as it means they can tie the Dolphins with a win vs the Raiders. If the Dolphins win, it keeps the division in play, even if that is pretty unlikely.

Lions v Jets - hahah Zach Wilson is playing, hopefully Detroit drops 30+ on them and Wilson throws 4 INTs

Titans v Chargers - Hope for a Chargers loss to help the Pats, but if the Titans lose, that keeps the Jaguars alive with a chance to take the division which would be funny

Bengals v Buccaneers - Hope that Tampa can knock off Cincinnati somehow to help the Patriots, but that's not very likely, which will leave them at 6-8, which means...

Panthers v Steelers - If the Panthers can win this one (not unreasonable), they'll also go to 6-8 and actually pass Tampa in the division due to holding the head to head tiebreaker. Who saw that coming?!

Giants v Commanders - This one came down to a tie last time and has obvious playoff implications, should be a fun watch

This game is NOT starting like I expected holy crap

Indianapolis is really putting it to the Vikings!! 17-0 First quarter.

Colts already up 17-0 over the Vikings in Minnesota.

Those Packers and Vikings losses are annoying me. If we miss the playoffs those games will be why.

Looks like JT is out with a concussion

Especially the game in Green Bay. That was on Patricia.

This doesn't surprise me, Minn. defense sucks, we shoulda whipped them.

The team we blew out mercilessly is stomping on the team we couldn't compete with. Makes sense.

Just turned the TV....How are the Colts up and shutting Minnesota out ??

Right on cue…I lOvE tHe CaLL

Always happens on a play like that

Lol

Really hope this colts team shows up against the chargers next week
