I thought this was always about having two very good teams play in the first game of the season.
Apparently we are once again going to have the Dallas Cowboys - a team that went 7-10 last year, and a team that has not advanced beyond the divisional round in thirty years - in primetime or near-exlusive nationwide time slots nearly every week.
2024:
Week 1 - 4:30, 99% nationwide coverage on Fox
Week 2 - 1:00, largest Fox coverage of any early game
Week 3 - 4:30, 95% nationwide coverage on Fox
Week 4 - Thursday Night Football (100%)
Week 5 - Sunday Night Football (100%)
Week 6 - 4:30, 98% nationwide coverage on Fox
Week 7 - Bye
Week 8 - Sunday Night Football (100%)
Week 9 - 1:00 on Fox, but still about 80% coverage
Week 10 - 4:30, 98% nationwide coverage on CBS
Week 11 - Monday Night Football (100%)
Week 12 - 1:00 on Fox, but still about 90% coverage
Week 13 - 4:30 Thanksgiving game (100%)
Week 14 - Monday Night Football (100%)
Week 15 - 1:00 on Fox, but still about 80% coverage
Week 16 - Sunday Night Football (100%)
Week 17 - 1:00 on Fox, but still about 90% coverage
Week 18 - finally lower, due to other games having playoff implications
2024 was not an anomaly.
Dallas Cowboys getting weekly nationwide broadcast coverage is the always the same story.
Every. Single. Year.
True NFL fans want to see a variety of the best games - not a mediocre team every single week.
I don't want to hear about ratings; that's circular logic.
The Cowboys get good ratings! Why?People are familiar with them. Why?Because they're on all the time. Why?The Cowboys get good ratings!Return to step one; rinse, lather, repeat.
It will be one of the few times that I will be rooting for the Iggles to win in a blowout. You're not wrong the Chiefs opened vs Det and Ravens the last 2 years just to add some context. They could have given us something better but I bet Eagles fans will enjoy rubbing it in Dallas's face all night.
I still have a little grudge over the Eagles so I root the other wayIt will be one of the few times that I will be rooting for the Iggles to win in a blowout.
You can say that all you want but fact is the Cowboys are a huge draw. They bring the viewers, they bring the ratings.True NFL fans want to see a variety of the best games - not a mediocre team every single week.
Cowboys are a massive draw and are "America's Team".....and will probably lose on national TV which Jerry Jones' reaction is always a must see. Also, the champion plays at home so the choices are limited. Lions will be considered Super Bowl contender so they are out and should be reserved for later in the season. It's between the Rams, Cowboys and Commanders. Cowboys are the obvious choice. So the defending super bowl champions open up the season ... against a team with a losing record?

I thought those were fun wins and good ways to start defending the title.I hated it when the Pats opened against the Steelers in 2002 and Colts in 2004. Those should've been late season primetime matchups.
They just played each other in the AFCCG. Looking back at the schedule, the choices in 2004 were Indy, Baltimore, NY Jets, MIA, Cincy, SF and SEA. I would've gone with SEA or Cincy. Colts vs Pats showdowns should be mid season at the earliest.I thought those were fun wins and good ways to start defending the title.
A mistake most people make is they go down there and spend all their time on Bourbon Street and they don’t seek out some of the best restaurants in the country, I was guilty of that when we went to the first Pats vs Rams Super Bowl.My daughter lives there
We love it
Friday night before SB36 No reservation and no clue we were walking into a 5 star steakhouse me and my father randomly found a great restaurant. We asked for a table and they told us reservations were filled months in advance and then at the same time 2 seats opened at the bar and we got lucky.A mistake most people make is they go down there and spend all their time on Bourbon Street and they don’t seek out some of the best restaurants in the country, I was guilty of that when we went to the first Pats vs Rams Super Bowl.
