That’s fine but you better have beef on the line to protect these smaller players. And as of right now, the run defense is a big liability.

Speed was a big problem with the run defense last year. It wasn't so much that RBs were bouncing off guys and picking up 5-10 more yards 9although that happened at times). It was more that defenders weren't even in position to make the tackle in a lot of cases. Smaller and faster might be a bigger fix for the run defense than you might think. A lot of times we saw RBs pick up 10-15 yards or even 20-30 yards before they were even touched.

Yes. The slower guys weren’t even getting there…sometimes. Yeah a lighter LB may not make the tackle but at least he gets there and has a chance.

The lighter faster LB will not get there in a lot of situations if he can not shed a guard. Lighter faster LBs can help on runs off tackle, and covering a RB, but runs up the middle with a guard at the 2nd level will be tougher if the Pats DL is not stout enough to delay the guard's release. Last year our DL was suspect up the middle, and our LBs were suspect wide. It looks like a 2 fold issue to me.

Yes that's why I'm on the Jordan Davis train. Agreed.

No reason to draft LBs (or Safeties) this year; we have enough of them here already... Our meager draft capital would be better-spent on Outside CBs, 0/1-tech DTs, Legit-Sized DEs to help Judon, Left-Side OLmen, and a WR.
I’d still like Lloyd if he’s there.

Also, some good LB prospects will be there in the 3rd, particularly if we add some picks.

If they’re not drafting anyone, I hope they bring in Dylan Moses at camp. Looks like Wilson, McGrone, etc, but you never know who hits and who misses.

I have no problem with hitting the post-draft UDFA market, hard, for those positions like Safety, LB, RB, not addressed during the draft... There are always plenty of decent prospects still available there... I would also re-examine the veteran market, including Dylan Moses, for the purpose of having some of them take physicals to see if they would be ready for OTAs, if not then TC later...

Disagree on UDFA for LB. The physical needs of that position make me think that any who have the athleticism simply won’t get there.

But was the issue not being able to shed blockers or being able to change direction or get to spots. Plenty of top defenses in this league have small fast players in all of their front seven positions. It isn't like the Pats are trying something that hasn't been proven to be effective by other teams in the league. In fact the trend seems to be to go smaller and faster at the LB all around the league. The Pats and their big LB corp prior to now was more the exception than the rule.

Wasn’t Lloyd a 4.7 forty guy? That means the other 3 qb’s in our division are faster than him!

How does the slow Lloyd stop us from being RPOed to death?

Might as well resign Hightower for peanuts!

It's a Shame we got next to nothing for him considering we had him at the height of his career. That said baring injuries the Colts are going to be a really good Team. They have a lot of key pieces Ryan with that RB add another good WR and watch out!

Well it seems like Gilly didn't like the Beli way like Gronk.
He seems to like the losing way then, because outside of his Belichick years when he was doing things like shutting down a 33ppg offense to 3 points in the Super Bowl, he had an extended career of never making the playoffs with the Bills, followed by a year with the putrid Panthers. We'll see if the Gilmore curse extends to Indy.

I agree. But think our interior DL is lacking. We have noone even close to Vita Vea.

8 picks is not "meager". It's one above the norm.

Anyone find it interesting the Patriots are looking at running backs on top 30 visits and was linked to Fournette?
I think they are planning on trading Harris on draft day for a second or third round pick.

It's likely that Mac Jones is faster than all the other QBs in the division with his 4.67 because Allen ran in the high 7s, Wilson didn't run but said he's 4.6s too like Jones, wile Tua was hurt but did run a 4.9.

I can’t imagine they will trade Harris but who knows. I think they like having 2 RB workhorses and if one goes down…who will pick up the slack? White? JJ?

I think they draft a running back in the mid rounds vs paying Harris what he will be worth on the open market.
I think they want a back who is more of a threat in the passing game.
